He did do something illegal, yes, but to be honest, who hasn't?
We ALL know, or should know, that millions of people do it everyday, around the world and in the US. Phelps being a world-class athlete shouldn't give him immunity, but it does attract the attention in order to get him in trouble for doing it. He being famous is the reason he got suspended, smoking pot was just the catalyst.
He may be a role model to swimmers across the globe, but smoking pot shouldn't kill the inspiration. It has NOTHING to do with his swimming capability.
