Definitely "Elfen Lied".

I know it's not a Movie, but it touch me very deep emotionally. My chest felt heavy even hours after i watched the final 13th episode, and i 'almost' cried several times during the series.

I agree - I couldn't remember much of the book but hearing Arcade Fire's "Wake Up" and the adorable trailer sold me (and made me cry a little bit, which my boyfriend at the time found amusing xD). When I bought it on release day and watched it that night, I wasn't expecting it to be as serious or emotionally touching as it was... Max's departure made me cry with: "Don't go - I'll eat you up, I love you so."

grave of the fireflies. seriously that movie grabs your emotions, then plays with them like some sort of puppet master. about as depressing as films come.

I absolutely love films and there are only two movies that had me so attached that at some point or another I was crying.

In Gran torino when
The harsh but caring mentor Walt Kowalski gets shot when he's just reaching for his cigarette lighter
I cried.

In The Good, The Bad and The Ugly when
The lovable and somewhat relatable character Tuco was brutally interrogated by Angel eyes to the sound of a band playing bitter-sweet music just outside the cabin
I cried.

I'd list more but to me you know that you definitely have an emotional connection to a film when it makes you so sad that you start blubbering like a baby without it's bottle and through that all other films which make me feel emotional connections (Ones that come to mind are UP, Be kind rewind and La Vita E Bella [life is beautiful, it's an Italian film and I really can't help myself from saying the films original title as wanky as it sounds]) are dwarfed by films that achieved this with me.

I am Legend is all I can think of at the moment. I loved every second of it, but it's a shame both the protagonist and his dog died.

Geez, I'm probably going to get "Internet Killed" for this, but Avatar. I felt really deeply for the Na'vi and the destruction of their world. During the battle (the first time i saw it) I was cheering inside my head every time a helicopter went down and actually cheered out loud when Jake blew up the command ship.

Death Sentence

It was a very gripping movie about a father whos son was killed by a group of gang members. The father then killed his sons murderer, but the other members didnt like that. The reason I was so attached is because I have had a brother who has been killed.

I don't see enough movies to really have a great example, so I'll just use this space to plug the greatest movie of the last year:

District 9.

Probably NOT a good entry for this sort of discussion, but 'Click' starring Adam Sandler is the most recent film I emoted to that I can think of.

Besides the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Yeah, I was really, really surprised how sad and emotional that movie was.
I was expecting a dumb comedy, and while it had bits like that, it definitely surprised me overall.

Not a film but when David Tennant left Doctor Who.

Just before he regenerates and he says: "I don't want to go!"

I was so close to crying.

I've never really felt emotional from a film. Half Life 2 episode 2 and a few other games have made me feel melancholy though.

Moon was also a very good film, a very emotional performance by Sam Rockwell. Its about a man whos been on a lunar mining base for 3 years, then 2 weeks before he goes home... he finds himself. I can't really say much more about it because it would spoil it which is a shame, but everyone should deffinately watch it. I think the best moment is when Sam starts crying and just says "I wanna go home."

It's also quite funny at times.

Yeah, I'm still crying at the end of LOTR. And at the start sometimes, because its all lovely and you know what comes later. I'm a real sad act for Sam and Frodo. All the good ones leave in the end :'(

UP played on my heartstrings like a guitar. Sometime ago i felt really bad so i watched all the old cartoons that i watched since i was a child, namely Balto, An American Tail and The Rescuers, nostalgia ftw.

I know this is about movies but the books Call of the Wild and White Fang brought up numerous emotions from me.

Could not connect to that movie AT ALL. I just... couldn't. I had to keep checking my watch and look at my friends looking back at me with a mutual expression of "WTF is this???"

However I'd have to say Hard Candy, Inglorious Basterds (First scene gets me every time), Up and Requiem for a Dream.

Also, Kick-Ass in the penultimate gun fight. The use of John Murphy's music was perfect.

That first piece of music, "The Machine Age" affects me so much more than the rest of the movie. Just the build up of it to when it climaxes at the end gets me every time.
