It's a lot easier to get away with wasting vast quantities of food by de-naturing it into animal feed (as happens with most excess cereals from MEDC's, particularly since aid debt interest is paid in part through shipments of cereals from LEDC's to MEDC's) than it is to simply leave it rotting in a warehouse somewhere (which is almost as logistically problematic as shipment).
We are talking about private enterprises that are required to make a profit, not some social programs that go by the motto of "for the greater good".

If we reduce the demand for animal feed, the only thing we are going to get out of it is reduced production. Because it simply wouldn't pay off, which would lead to food being more expensive for everyone.

Edit:
Desertification is not something that can't be combated. If you're going to spend millions on something, at least spend it on stuff that's going to last for more than a few months.

If Africa can't grow the vast majority of the food it requires, it's going to end up starving. The excess production from the Americas is not all that relevant to this equation.

Over farming is a cause of desertification, there is no denying that, however while it does diminish the production somewhat, the process can slowed down to a doable level.

Grain costs next to nothing simply due to the fact that it is over produced. Suppliers know that they can afford to overproduce it, because what isn't sold off for human consumption is sold off as animal feed.

If you remove the demand created from animal feed, then the corporations can't afford to overproduce anymore. In the end, less grain is produced, so to maintain their profits it needs to be sold at a higher price per ton.

If the Ethiopians don't have the money required to purchase the grain that's already produced. Diminishing the demand is not going to help them much, all that's going to lead to is to lower the production of grain altogether. Grain isn't a service, by lowering the demand you also lower the supply.

Oh right, I have no idea about either Maccy D's or KFC's politics, they really aren't a relevant player in the agricultural bossiness where I live.

Also, I wasn't aware that Africa produced enough food to sustain itself. But frankly, then it seems to be a political problem, as in, their countries don't give a fuck about them. And by just trying to increase the grain supply, you really aren't going to change that mentality.

I almost exclusively eat meat. =3 I don't mind some fruit, but veges just aren't my thing. I don't mind the taste if cooked right, but I just can't stand the texture raw or cooked. I tend to stay away from sweets to, though I have a weakness for brownies....

I can't eat tofu.

Sure you might make it taste better than a cheeseburger, but as soon as you say tofu. I shut my mouth, lock it up and throw away the key.

It's in my head. I just can't get past thinking of how bad my aunt used to make it...and now all tofu as been lumped together in one.

I tried this weird tofu chicken thing though once....that was gross.

I don't eat any meat save for chicken; I really don't need to pick from twelve different animals to get protein, so I stick with chicken.
I've never had any sea food or fish, something about it just skeeves me out. Urgh.
I have an extreme hatred for mushrooms. They look so... freaky. They're fungus! They grow in my basement! Who thought up the idea to chop 'em up and put them on a salad?? They have the texture of a rubber band.
GOD DAMN MUSHROOMS.

Tomatoes, which is odd because I eat ketchup and pizza/pasta sauce. But whole tomatoes are just disgusting.
