Mushrooms. What wandering cracked nomad thought those would look good to eat and just HAPPENED to find the one fungi that wouldn't strike him down dead.

And Whyyyyyy.

Mushrooms. They're all slimey, like snails.
I used to not eat mushrooms. I felt they couldn't be trusted, growing in dark, rainy forests with no one looking. Then I had some sauted in butter. I'm a convert now. Silently grow in secrecy you crazy things, I'll be waiting for you.

OT: I've never eaten veal and will never knowingly eat it. I haven't eaten swordfish in years because of over-fishing. I used to love swordfish. With mushrooms :p

I absolutely hate the texture of Jell-O. It still tastes good but it just feels... wrong. I can't explain it.

Wait, what? I don't even...
Agreed. I love how must vegans who seem to have that "I R SUPERHERO FUR NT EETING MEET :D" mindset ignore that, for the better part of our existence, we have survived solely on meat. If you can say "I am vegetarian because I don't like the taste of meat" then I can respect that...but if you make up a bunch of nonsense about how you are saving the world and lots of animals because you aren't eating meat -sigh-.
Also this:

I showed this to a "vegan" friend and she got very angry...

I don't eat tofu that has been used as a meat substitute. Tofu burger patties, tofu sausage, tofu turkey/chicken. Its stupid to create a vegetarian dish by using something like tofu to create something that is supposed to imitate/look like meat. Enjoy meat or realise if you don't eat it then you shouldn't be eating products that are designed to imitate it.

Tofu used in proper ways is quite nice.

I'ma vegetarian, purely for moral reasons, I came to the conclusion that if I felt guilty for killing/harming creatures...then why eat them? But other than meats, I've always been willing to try anything and there aren't any foods I don't like.

Although one thing I've gone off lately is chocolate, tbh I think I'm just bored of it and the way it melts and coats your teeth seems to disturb me =s

I'm a vegetarian because of the Peter Singer arguments myself. Basically:

1) Ethically animals are treated poorly and are themselves sentient. They evolved alongside us and feel pain just like humans.

2) Humans don't need to eat meat to have a healthy diet. In fact many people have far too much meat in their diets and have health problems because of it.

3) Farming meat is completely inefficient. Beef is one of the most inefficient sources of protein to produce over time. We feed the animals on grain and other things which humans can eat ourselves and so there's a boatload of nutrition lost in the production process.

4) Carrying on from 3, if we produced everything arably then we could actually feed most of the worlds population. Considering the world is growing and is set to peak at 9 billion by around 2050 we need efficiency and sustainability in food production.

It is for this reason too that I reject free market capitalism. Not that i'm socialist or anything, just that if people produce what is demanded then when there is more and more demand for meat it means that there will be less and less food in the world. Those who can't afford food are left to starve while those who can will eat everything.
I'm just here to say that I'm one of these people too, and I support you all the way. Don't let yourself be trolled by clueless people.

Meat is ridiculously under-priced. Why? Because people don't give a good god damn about how livestock is treated. No they're not treated in ANY WAY well, despite what people might tell you.

In other news, livestock account for 20% of all the worlds carbon emissions. Yup. Switching to those new fancy light bulbs seems rather insignificant now, doesn't it...

Freeze-dried strawberries. They just feels so... I dunno, hostile? Yeah, that's a good word that doesn't make sense for anyone. So yeah, freeze-dried strawberries just don't work out for me. Strawberries are supposed to be soft, sweet, juicy things. And that stuff is just a dried up lump of something that might, in some distant past, been a strawberry. But now it's an undead berry-monster.

I very, very rarely drink orange juice these days. I used to love it, to the point that I had six cups of it inside of twenty minutes, then vomited. Now whenever I drink it, I've got that bloody correlation in my mind.

I would like to disagree.

This is not the 17th century, issues of starvation are no longer issues of production. With the introduction of GMO's and modern agricultural techniques, we can plant and grow shit pretty much anywhere we want. The total non-protected arable area for our planet is calculated to be around 38 million square kilometres, currently we are only using around 14 million out of that. And even so, we have nearly tripled the amount produced from a single unit of area over the last four decades.

The problem of starvation is not a problem of production it is that of management and logistics. It's not that we can't produce the food in the required amounts, it's that we can't get it to the areas required due to either political, social or management issues.

Do you sincerely believe that if New Zealand started growing wheat instead of sheep, an Ethiopian child wouldn't have a starvation belly?
