Oh I suppose if we're talking about games... Pokemon, to a degree. I still love the Pokemon games but I wish they'd just tweak the main formula a bit... just a little. I wouldn't say its the worst but its the franchise I'd like to see some change in.
Didn't they pretty much completely change the combat mechanics in the DS versions?

Without Pre-empting X-Com, and Brothers in Arms: Fuck the Fans I'd say Tom Clancy games. Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell were all fantastic and fairly unique games, until they were turned into Gears of Terrorists, Generic Modern War Game, and Stealth means shooting everyone in the face.

really people? nobody said fear yet?
the first one wasn't as scary as people would want you to believe but it did a pretty fine job and back in the day greyish-brown was not yet as dominant as it is now. EVERYTHING since then has been nothing but a cash-grab, up to F3EAR that has fucking pop-up messages because you stayed in cover for x seconds and now get a friendly hug.

also C&C, the seconds one was the first game i ever played online and c&c4 was just so horrible. The rest of the series was arguably rather good but still.
and splinter cell, the 2&3 were great and conviction did to stealth what Dead space did to horror.

Sonic I would say it just became unrecognisable although I do have good feelings about Generations after seeing a demo. A really beautiful green hill zone. Looks liek some nice old school Sonic action.

Final Fantasy also, I think I will stick with the Tales series and Dragonquest.

Portal, maybe. Both games were great, but when your starting point is the top of Mount Olympus you're definitely going to go downhill from there when you make a sequel.

All the franchises I was interested in have lost the plot to me.

Probably my favourite out of all was the Metroid series till they changed her character design to an anime model. After that they added in missions, story's through text and boring cinematics, all these things ruined the experience for me. I believe what made Metroid unique in the first place was just being set loose on lands you knew nothing about, discovering the mysteries as well as finding new toys and power-ups. What made Super Metroid and Metroid Prime master pieces is the design and atmosphere, something Miyamoto should probably be concentrating on most of all.

Super Smash Brothers is another game series I loved. Even though it's only Brawl I find to be the cancer to the series, I doubt it will ever recover. One of the best things that made Melee was the fluent and free movement, which became slow, blocky and clumsy in Brawl. You can add in as many supers and options as you want HAL, but it won't make up for the most important part.

Command & Conquer in general, don't know what the fuck happened there. I mean, just as they were making the game play smoother it suddenly became chunky and uninteresting after Generals. Even though you could say the Zero Hour expansion was messy as well, not well thought out at all.

I could go on for awhile :p

Command and Conquer, Final Fantasy, CoD to a degree (campaign-wise without a doubt), and...I guess, as other people have said, Star Wars games. The Jedi Knight, Battlefront, Republic Commando and KotOR games were all amazing, but they have really yet to make another good SW game since Battelfront 2. The Force Unleashed just felt like someone got crappy god of war clone in my Jedi Knight...I do have some hopes for TOR, but them going with that art style, that just goes 110% against those awesome CG trailers they put out, just upsets me. I get it, WoW graphics make the game less demanding so more machines can run it, but FFS...throw me a freaking bone here. Will still get/try it atleast, because I just want to be a damn Jedi Knight, but I'm a little afraid this is gonna be Star Trek online all over again.

F.E.A.R. definitely. First one was fucking awesome, second one was good but seemed a little unpolished and didn't make a whole lot of sense, third one... Jesus Christ, the third one is garbage.

Pokemon is another thing I'd have to disagree with, simply because it hasn't gone downhill at all, though admittedly it hasn't gone uphill either. It's just stayed a straight line... its only failing is a complete and utter lack on Nintendos part to actually try and live up to the potential the series has.
Your first person I've seen to be in between on the Pokemon issue. Everyone else says it's either improved a bunch or has gone down the shitter.

I don't share your view though. I'll say this, they have made some advancements to the game play to give it slightly more depth (even though most of it's still effected by chance) and the new graphics do look very nice.

However, it's the new Pokemon designs that put me off. I find they are not as characteristic, most of them lack the charm the previous generations had. Also, I find the new map designs to be really bland, not that the first games had interesting map design, but still.

I'm gonna say GTA, but cheekily count Saints Row as part of that.

GTA was great when the missions were a bit, sillier, and the action was turned up to eleven, so to speak. Gradually they've included deeper and deeper storylines, which is in no way a bad thing, but for some reason that has pushed away the sense of fun and become more like actually living the shitty life Niko has.

Saints Row seems to have detected that but gone in completely the other direction, having ridiculous amounts of silly fun to be had, but honestly, I don't care about the gang, the characters, the city, any of it.

It seems like since San Andreas the game's personality has split off into two different franchises...neither of which are as fulfilling when you take the other part away.

But...obviously I'm wrong and it's Sonic :)

I'm gonna say, personally Mario,

I mean, it HAS sorta lost it's luster in the past few games... and I KNOW that people are gonna sh*t on me for this...

Remember, this is just what I think, ok...
I share your opinion. I never found Mario Galaxy that interesting really, more linear and I hate the Wii-mote.

The 'New' Super Mario Brothers Wii is just pathetic. It looks rushed, 4 players didn't fit in the world very well and the game isn't that long either.

In what way are you talking about? They've tweaked things every now and again and added 2/3 Pokemon battles later on. But I can't really think of a huge change...

Alright. Everyone needs to go look up the definition of the word "most" and then come back.

The correct answer (among series that I have played, at least) is Sonic. While there are a lot of series whose games have recently dropped in average quality, no franchise has self-destructed as spectacularly as that one.

It's a tough decision between Sonic and CoD series.
These series have to disappear for awhile, especially SOnic, so people can miss it, and want to play it again.
