Basically, I think game to movie transitions so far have seriously sucked because they have focused on games where they NEED to add plot in order to make a lengthy enough script that can actually be filmed, and these additions just break everything apart. Most games (especially FPS and RTS) don't even have a plot that can't be sumarized in one paragraph. That is not a good starting off point, especially since, as has been said, movies are a rather passive experience. I would nominate adventure games (monkey island, gabriel knight, grim fandango, longest journey, etc) as infinately more suitable material to make a movie of. Then again, a lot of people here probably don't play them or are unaware of their existance to consider them of having enough substance to take them to the mainstream.
