I prefer real people. That, or the fact that developers seem to think that eye candy in video games can only be female, means that I really can say that I don't want to do any of them. I may just be predisposed in some looking for hotties in real life, you never know.

Due to the wonders of the human eye mixed with modern technology, virtual people can be just as attractive as real people. (Arguably more so, since their features are often manipulated so as to be optimally attractive.)

If there's something creepy or wrong about finding fictional characters attractive, then there should also be something wrong with finding those yellow smiley-faces cheerful. They're obviously not human, yet they still appear happy. Our mind fills in the blanks with virtual characters just like it does with smiley-faces, and our mental image of a character can be just as detailed as that of a real person, so I don't see a problem with thinking they're hot.

(Note: I'm not, in any way, shape or form condoning this thread at all. If anything I'm against it, but this particular topic (virtual characters being attractive) is one that I find particularly interesting.)

If the question was "Who is the most attractive game character?" I'd be ok with it, but "which one do you wanna screw?" Is a whole different idea.

Yeah, computer generated images maybe be optimized etc, but the fact of the matter is, they are not real people, and they don't look like them. They might be close, but they aren't close enough. And hell, even if i thought they were, I would still think this was weird. But tbh, i think it's pretty sad when guys sit and drool over hot girls in films and refer to their every moment on screen as a "fap moment". It just cries out desperation. If they weren't sitting on their ass masturbating over a bunch of pixels, and instead went out and met real people, they might not need to masturbate ever again, you know what i'm saying?

And your smiley example doesn't really hold water. The smiley does not in and of itself bring cheer. It is an indicator of that happiness of the poster/writer, it's a shorter way of saying "i'm happy". It's just a substitution for words, it's an extension of language. So there is nothing weird by deriving the authors cheer from them. Whereas wanting to have sex with someone that isn't real... that's creepy.

And ok, i might accept justification at a push for some of the more realistic ones (Lara croft and Cortana come to mind, you know, the ones that are good cgi of a realistic person). But FFVII characters? Peach?

Okay, I apparently failed to be as specific as was needed, and it resulted in some misinterpretation.

The smiley-face I was referring to was not the emoticon, but the big yellow circle with two dots and a line in it. You know, the one you used to see in Wal-Mart commercials. There's no way that's an extension of language.

The virtual characters I was referring to were not stylized characters like WoW characters or Peach, but, like you said, the ones that actually try to look a bit realistic. Specifically I was thinking of characters like Alyx Vance or Lara Croft, since I find myself not attracted to blue women. Of course they won't look human if your criteria require that there are no inconsistencies, but most people don't have criteria like that, and the characters can easily be attractive to them.

Also, you seem to believe that you can either be one of those people that only finds game characters attractive or only finds real girls attractive, not both. Or you seem to think that anyone who finds game characters attractive enough to masturbate to them does not meet real girls at all. I spend a lot of time with actual people in real life, but I'll also admit that I think Talim and Ms. Vance are extremely hot.

Another example as to how insanely simple an image can be for our brain to correctly interpret it would be stick figures. While they don't get close enough to reality to be attractive or unattractive, they are close enough to immediately make us think "human." And if we can get enough polygons on screen to make a naked woman with at least some fine detail, the brain will immediately fill in all the little problems that we probably don't even notice and the mental image will be of exactly the same quality you'd get from looking at a picture of a real woman. And if the detail that is explicitly on-screen and the detail that the brain inferred was there adds up to an image that the observer finds attractive, then that person finds it attractive. There's nothing creepy about that. It happens without the person even thinking.

Another example would be Zero Punctuation. I'm not saying any of the caricatures in ZP are attractive or anything, but they are obviously very far from being human, yet we can immediately recognize them as representations of people.

And I'm sure most people would agree that it is sad that some people are very lonely like you describe, but you also have to realize that quite often, those people's core personalities are frowned upon in society. And when you combine that with an extreme rarity of girls who share those people's hobbies (aside from excessive basement masturbation), along with (usually) that person's shyness (usually caused by the first problem, regarding modern society), you get a group of people that gets pretty lonely, and understandably so. And don't act like people are just able to suddenly become totally social people and talk to every girl they meet. You have to be able to empathize with people, and realize that quite often, the basic elements of their personality make just going out and socializing willy-nilly very difficult.

well i've never seen a wal-mart commercial, as i'm in the uk. But i know what you mean. But i still disagree with your general point about the smiley, as if i see one, i don't automatically cheer up or smile or whatever. It actually just makes me think of drugs, cos a while ago over here (idk about the US) it was linked with pills like ecstasy. But my point is, it doesn't bring cheer of itself, it just associates itself in my mind with something else. And to that degree i guess i can understand why people might associate a cgi image in their mind with sex.

I didn't say that there are only two types of people; those that find cgi girls hot, and those that find real girls hot. I don't know what gave you that impression. And i also don't think that guys that have a propensity to jizz over cgi never meet real girls. Kind of difficult not to meet real girls, they are, after-all, everywhere.

Re: your ZP note, yes we associate those images with real people, we understand what they represent, but that doesnt make me think "Gee i wanna meet that person and maybe hook up with them". The mind attaches meaning to images. In my opinion, images are just an extension of language. We attach meaning to them just like we attach meaning to words.

And yeah its easy enough to blame society for these peoples failure to socialise, but i've got some typically "geeky" friends myself, all of which have done alright on the sex front. And sometimes there is a reason why these personalities are frowned upon. I once worked with a guy who described to me how awesome it would be to have tentacles because then you could use it to penetrate a girl in all three major holes with just one limb. Thats weird. If people say that kinda stuff to people with no invitation to talk about such matters, its their own fault they are lonely. If you were to be having a convo with someone and just said "mate, how fucking sexy is Cortana eh? I'd tap that allllll night!" you could understand why they might think you were a bit odd, right?

I can empathise with people being shy, i'm pretty shy myself. But you live and learn, and if you don't get out there and make the effort then you've got no one to blame but yourself.

But thats kinda beside the point. Like i said, to a degree, i can understand the realistic characters being found attractive. That doesn't weird me out so much. But the characters like peach or whatever, thats weird. And it's all very well for you to say that you aren't talking about those people, but there are people on this thread who are, and it was to the thread in general that my intial comment was directed.
