Final Fantasy VI, X and XII.
In VI I got as far as the pre-final dungeon world-hopping. You all know that phase of a game, where the final dungeon/boss/mission is open to you, but you're given the option to run around the world completing side-quests and getting yourself geared for the final showdown. For some strange reason though, that's typically where a game loses me. In fact, swap the "VI for "X" and the rest of the story can stay the same.
XII was a little different, as I'm not sure how far I had actually gotten through the game. My best guess is that I was only about half-way through before I decided I'd had enough. I think I recall something like a green elder wyrm... and it kicked my ass.
Anyway, in all three cases, the games themselves were thoroughly enjoyable, but for any combination of reasons, I hadn't felt compelled to finish them. Now, so many years after the fact, I feel like getting the games and consoles needed to actually finish them would be me paying more money than what I would be getting out of what I have left to play.
