Everyone must buy and play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 from start to finish in all three modes, especially multiplayer. It's cliched, I know, but its a great game. Also, play Splinter Cell and Hitman. They are fucking awesome.
At first I disagreed with your CoD:MW2 statement, but then I thought, why not? After all, that'd all only take about 2 hours.

Some good games have been mentioned, yet Secret of Monkey Island won this thread several posts back.

This is what is destroying gaming.
Actually, great games like this are what make it an industry. To say you should only play the classics is to say war should be fought with sticks and stones because they were the first weapons. Industry evolves, in every medium. Just learn to accept the new and improved games of today. Not Zelda, cuz Link's gay.

The hell do you mean? The single player is short, but no one buys it for single-player! That's the point!

The Secret of Monkey Island. I will most likely refuse to speak to you if you haven't played the best game of all time.
This one.
What's so great about point and click
*Story
*Humor (possibly)
*Clever Puzzles...

...That's really about it. Though, some games just do it well enough to be note-worthy. Maybe it's not your cup o' tea, and quite frankly I can't blame you despite being a huge fan of the genre.
I can see the appeal of the story and humour, and it is my cup o' tea because I'm british XD but I just can't play point and click. Too slow.

So many great games to choose from but i guess DMC3 or Ninja gaiden Black...or Symphony of the Night. Probably my all time favorie games. I guess all lists like this should have stuff like Super Mario bros. 3 and Zelda: A link to the past in them but that's so cliché and boring. Even mentioning OoT in a thread like this should disqualify you from gaming all together ;)

Day of the Tentacle, Dune 2, Doom, Warlords 3, Dungeon Keeper 1, Tyrian and Raptor. Those are the games I would encourage people to play.

*edit*

Oh and Tie Fighter.

What. The. Fuck. If you are an anti-gamer, don't come to the Escapist. If that is just your version of funny... well it kinda is. Never mind.

Why is everyone talking about Prehistoric games? My first game console was the PS2, am I the only one in the present?

Well, as has been said before(Thus it's time to huck my own loogie into the sea of saliva), people have their own opinions.

For submission, though:

-Starcraft
-Diablo I
-The Legend of Zelda(It puts hair on your chest)

For fuck's sake, no it doesnt! It puts hair on your "I'm a giant asshole with no life" badge.
That, too. Well played.

However, I believe your comment puts some shine onto your "Thanks for the implication, friend..." Badge.

Probably because some of us are older than 14? I started with teh NES and have many fond memories of that console. Most games don't hold up too well anymore but a few does and a game for a system over 20 years old that is still actually good deserves mention in a thread like this. Appreciate the legacy of your hobby :)

Some age quite well, though and I love them.

"Have some Lufia Cabarnet with your meal, dear sir, It's quite worth the money."

Alot of NES games, really. I still have an old system in working condition. It's nice to have when I want to get back to the old stuff. Crystallis, as well.

what. the. fuck.
if you knew the series like I do from 01 on the PC, having cleared all the single-player components of the whole series and spent many hours in MP aswell, then you'd know that MW2 is a PoS, a symbol of all that is WRONG with the industry. popular =/= good.
besides, i've seen plenty of vids of MP on the tube (so?) and many of them know and state that the MP is still broken, and i can see it conceptually, as it appears to be better subtitled "laptop warfare" or "dual antique shotguns"

back to the topic, and positive words:
I'd recommend a lot of people play TIE fighter, myself, a great game of a genre that was once vibrant, but nowadays is really not well-played/no AAA titles in it in the foreseeable future..
also, BF2, also known as the real man's CoD4, which is the man-child's MW2, which as is the Antichrist of gaming.

I have played Zelda and deemed it unworthy of my time. That said, i think everyone should have at least a try of Dwarf Fortress. It's the gameplay depth everyone has been craving since 1998. And the game isn't even really in Alpha yet. And it's free. And it's coded entirely by one, yes, one guy. It can inspire tears of compassion, true feelings of guilt, gasps of awe and levels of malice unrivalled by even the most callous gorefests. [small](That is, if you can get past the unusual interface and the learning wall.)[/small]

Also, i join the previous poster's support for BF2.
