For me it is a split between the jet grind/set radio games and Bastion since they are the only ones that I have put on my ipods and have stayed there since i put them there?

so what are your favorites?

Bastion is pretty special as you said. The Zelda series has also had some really pretty and memorable tunes aswell.

I really love TES music aswell but I think people are probably sick of hearing about Skyrim and the like for now.

Final Fantasy aswell shame the games have gone downhill since 9

The Dynasty Warriors series has consistently featured great music that suits the games perfectly. From the heavy rock guitar solos when fighting against hundreds of enemy soldiers to the peaceful classical Chinese music during the more peaceful aspects of the games.

Harry Gregson-Williams made the Metal Gear Solid series sound as deep and emotional as they were portrayed on-screen.

I also find myself humming Fallout 3's Galaxy News & Enclave radio stations quite a lot.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game. If you haven't heard of the music in there, look it up. NAO. I would listen to just the soundtrack to that game and nothing else for the rest of my life and be happy.

Special runner up: Brutal Legend.

For me, it's Silent Hill. Akira Yamaoka did an amazing job at creating the music for that game series, and he was great doing Shadows of the Damned too.

Chrono Trigger had amazing music too.

Trine 1 and 2 have very nice music, so do the Final Fantasy games, Okami and Okamiden, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Minecraft, and the Legend of Zelda games.

I'll nominate Silent Hill. Some games have got epic soundtracks, some are minimalist, but I've never come across a soundtrack that more perfectly fitted its setting than Silent Hill (Silent Hill 2 especially).

I'll nominate Shadow Hearts for most hilarious soundtrack titles though. I don't know another game where titles range from Bacon Juice to Coffin Fetish to
Sicking Fucking

Game with the best music? Sonic Adventure for the Dreamcast. I don't even have to think about it for a single second.

Damn, that brought back some good memories of childhood. Yes, the game may have had Big the Cat, but to this day I think this is a great game, and I no longer like Sonic. I've got to hook up my Dreamcast again.

Also, speaking of soundtracks, it's a bit ironic, but even though I hate the Call of Duty games, especially the Modern Warfare series, I've actually been getting into the soundtrack a bit. <:-/ Especially the music for the "No Russian" level. It just has a dirty feel to it, you know what I mean?

Spend years hating a game series, end up liking the soundtrack. :p

EDIT: Also, another game with a good soundtrack is Penumbra: Overture. It really puts you in the mood.

Back in the day, Castlevania was well-applauded for its music. It continues that trend with infinite remixes of "Bloody Tears" and "Vampire Killer" both official and fanmade.
