In my opinion RTS games seem perfect only for PCs. I mean, Ive been playing RTSs since I was eight years old with good old age of empires 1 and after all these years they seem perfectly matched with the PC. Why would anyone make/port it to other platforms?? Remember starcraft on the PS? that was a failed endeavor wasn't it?
Hot-keys
There are only about 10-12 buttons on a standard controller for any console when RTS games clearly require more to hot-key units and buildings.
Micromanagement
This involves microing your units to attack those that are weak against it and to do this successfully you need to be up close and personal to the monitor, you could sit up close to the TV but that defeats the purpose of your console.
Other aspects as base building and resource gathering don't seem to affected though.
FPSs on the other hand seem better suited on consoles. Lets face it you need the 360 degree analog stick to strafe effectively or even just shoot whats behind you fast enough. I remember having so much difficulty playing quake and using the arrow keys to move around. You could just buy a USB controller, I have one too BTW, but why not just play it on your console in the first place?!?
RPGs seem adapted to both platforms. For instance Ive own Fable TLC on both xbox and PC. On the PC version i can hot-key like 10 spells and potions for quick access so i could cast spells one after the other or use potions on the fly. But on the console version i had better control with the analog stick, on the PC i sometimes ran out of room to move my mouse when taking on 10 enemies for instance. BTW a side note, Fable TLC didn't support USB controller or joystick. zzzzz
I guess game design would play a major role in this but still, to me some genres are just better off in the one platform. So all whats your opinion on this topic?
