Metal Gear solid, pretty much the whole series.

Mass Effect 2, losing a vast sum of party members even after all my preperation

Practically the Entirety of Drakengard one will make you feel absolutely hopeless, as if nothing you do is helping to save the world you'r trying to save. And then theres the alternate endings..

I don't know about you guys, but I always found that one scene in Metal Gear Solid 2 to be the most emotionally jarring of the whole series. You know, that one

When Emma dies in Hal's arms

That was heavy stuff.

Definitely.

That's the one I always cry in no matter what. Especially when
Emma's bird begins saying "Hal. I miss you"

To this day, I come close to tears in Ocarina of Time when Link leaves the forest and he runs into Saria on the bridge. I honestly can't say for certain why, it just strike an emotional cord with me for some reason.

Really now that I think about it Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, and Wind Waker all had their fair share of parts that really got me in a soft spot. I have to attribute it to the manipulation of the soundtrack though. The Zelda series (least the 3 I mentioned, still need to play TWP) has always had amazing sound direction and for me emotions are driven home more effectively via sound. Some of my favorite scenes from the games involve no sound at all, the stark silence and ambiance of the world are all the effect that is needed.

Metal Gear Solid.

The whole series. Aside from the first one, I've cried in all of them.

4 especially. I actually just replayed all of them in a row and cried in all of them.

Other than that, Kingdom Hearts. Both of them.

Ah, those are some amazing games.
I was gonna say MGS as well, though just one game and one scene brought tears to my eyes.

During Gray Fox's "speech" to Snake when he's lying under Rex's foot. You know the, "We're not tools of the goverment or anyone else..." that scene tore me up!

Along with the story, the expansive view, and my immersion in the world, this song was the perfect catalyst to make my heart move. I don't know what I felt, but I felt it. A little melancholy, with some nostalgia thrown in.

I just sat there, taking it in, feeling my heart beat in my chest, realizing that a video game was making me feel.

What game, if any, has had that one single greatest emotional response from you? Or are you more about the score, less about the drama?
I just reached that point myself. I was a little surprised at first, because I've become so accustomed to the quiet wilderness, then I was overwhelmed and completely immersed. Most surprisingly satisfying moment in any game of recent memory.

Other emotional moments for me would be mainly in the FF series. Playing FFVII for the first time, and it being my first ever console game, had me all over the emotional spectrum.

This gets me every time...

Yeah, when that song started playing, I slowed my horse, and slowly trotted down the muddy road, the rain flickering against the moonlight...

Awe. That's what it was... awe. It taught me the true meaning of 'awesome'.

The scene in Heavy Rain, where you had choose whether or not to kill the other father. That really gripped me.

System Shock 2, Penumbra and Sanitarium.

Sanitarium was very overlooked game by the general public. It's about a man who has amnesia and is locked up in this creepy insane asylum. As you progress through the game you discover some horrific information about why you are in this place. It can be very scary on an emotional level.
It is a challenging game in terms of the puzzles so it really for the casual adventure player, although with walk through hints it still can be a great ride. It's dark and creepy, so don't go insane while playing the game. hehe

Check out the trailer.

Rage does not count unless it is evoked by narrative, and sorrow likewise. In my opinion anyways.

Two games Hands down got me so emotionally invested in the characters that I actually lost myself in the suspension of disbelief for the first one and honestly felt as if I was the main character himself. The second? GOD GIVEN GOLDEN WATER OF PURE GLORIOUS STORY QUALITY!

Legend of Legaia for PS1, The main character, traditionally named Vahn, was an easy enough character to get wrapped up in, and the tale, while a bit hokey at one or two points, was so damn touching and the characters so damn real in their words and behavior that not even it's less than gorgeous graphics could keep them from being human and pulling you into their tale as a fellow comrade.

Okami, tale of the sun Goddess Amaterasu, and her journey to regain her power and protect her land and people, even in a time when their faith in the Gods has all but vanished, the beautiful art, and clever gameplay elements were nice, but the ending was so in tune with the traditional Epic of a Hero, that it honestly pulled at my Heart strings during the final scene right before you got to tear into the final Evil one last time.

That moment alone brings up the replay value of this game. I'm totally hooked, and I haven't even played multiplayer yet.

Now all I need is a bag of popcorn, and a good ol' Western film (or two).

Two obvious ones: the Opera Scene in FF6, and Aeris' death (it's been 13 years, if you still don't know, you're probably never gonna play the damn game). Both had me tearing up.

However, just today I played the final story mission of Red Dead Redemption, and allow me to say, I have never wanted virtual vengeance as much as I did after that.

Yeah, I have to give this game credit, it re-ignited my love of westerns. I've re-watched all of the Man With No Name movies, Open Range, and soon, The Magnificent Seven, again because of it. ^_^

The end of Half-Life 2: Episode 2. That was a very shocking tearjerker and was executed in a very emotionally engaging way, and it sure worked on me.
