*follows the popular cry*
fallout 3.
One of the biggest selling points of this game was 100+ hours worth of gameplay.
about 15 of those hours are story, the rest is "if you get bored, why not walk around that area"
To me thats just a horrible waste of game.
there is so much to explore, but no reason to. If they just made the wasteland about 10% smaller (lets be honest, removing any of that 'nothing' space they include alot of wouldn't do much to make things worse) they could have invested more time/money/resources to making a better story line which involves exploring the majority of the areas, leaving a few other hidden areas to check out and maybe more continuing quest lines then the main one, the survival guide book and talking to vampire wannabe freak things (which were pretty funny, however since it was taken so seriously... it just came across as creepy)
plus lets try the good example of a hardcore gamer.
"OH! theres 100 hours of gameplay! I shall play it all" one of two things happen
finish game before explore everything "wait... wheres the rest of my game?!"
finish EVERYTHING before finishing the game ".... this is my reward? being babysat by an army while a giant robot clears a path for me? why did I bother collecting this ammo if im not even going to use it?"
And for those who didn't know... if you get EVERY SINGLE possible ending for fallout 3 (good, bad, final choice, etc. all of them) and laid out every possible scenario back to back... you would get a slideshow that lasted about 8 minutes and 40 seconds.
100 hours work.... less then 10 minutes of reward, and it's not even that detailed. Pictures and liam neesan talking. That's all.]
edit: oh yes, and I forgot. A game THAT BIG and they refused to do open beta testing. A game that big they would have needed alot of beta testing. And that's pretty obvious they should have done it after seeing the story line and alot of the glitches (esp. on the ps3)
