What game made you feel most immersed and "in" the game?

There are times when I imagine that all of us become so involved in a game that we feel very connected to the character we're playing as, and we feel like we are a part of the world that we're directing them through. My question is what game sucked you in the most and made you feel like you were the character and you were in the world? What game succeeded the most in taking you away from the real world?

For me, it is undoubtedly Morrowind. When I first played it several years ago, everything about The Elder Scrolls was new to me and I had no idea what I was getting into. I remember starting the game on the prison ship and being tossed off in Seyda Neen. My character was lost in unfamiliar territory with nowhere to go, and I really felt that since I had never played an open ended RPG of that sort before Morrowind. I felt that my character would be overwhelmed by what they were faced with, and so was I. Not knowing what to do, where to go, or how to get anywhere overwhelmed me very much.

Over time, I learned a lot about Vvardenfell and as I did little quests and explored the island, I grew to feel very connected to my character, sort of as if I had projected my consciousness into Tamriel. I could lose myself for hours in that game and completely forget about real world responsibilities unless I grew hungry or Mother Nature called.

But everything just clicked over time. The setting, the music, all of the ambient characters and objects and such.. I just felt totally in tune with my character and felt like I wasn't just directing them with my mouse and keyboard, but was really living and learning on the island of Vvardenfell. Kudos to Bethesda for making Morrowind so immersive for me.

Anyone else ever feel completely immersed and lost in a game? What game, and to what extent?

Oblivion, to the extent that I had dreams that my Khajiit character was an Argonian, and I was profoundly disturbed by this for some reason. Seriously, I spent so many hours just roaming Cyrodiil and admiring the sights.

For me it has to be fallout 3, I literally went through nuck and cranny of the map while listening to GNR over and over and over again, completely immersed, other games that have kind of had that effect on me were KOTOR, Oblivion, can't think of any more but theres defenitely more

The first 15 minutes of Bioshock.

Shame that the game couldn't hold me in there.

Heavy Rain and Fahrenheit did a good job though.

Agreed, it has to be between Morrowind and Oblivion.

Oblivion to a slightly greater extent, because of better visuals and stuff like that.

But both games had me massively immersed. Most of my time in both is just wandering around and doing random things, like hunting deer or just going to a random tavern or house to just sleep. I can't even estimate the time I've logged in on both

Heavy Rain did a good job as well, the first time around.

BioShock 1 and Fallout 3 did a good job of really immersing me. Also, some parts of the MW2 campaign were excellently done. I had forgot mostly about it but just replaying it again (finished on veteran last night) there were some really good parts that got me right in it. But most of MW2 was pretty bland shooter. I just liked those sorta first person cinematic parts.

Oh actually Heavy Rain really got me into it too. That was an excellent 'interactive drama' as they call it.

Assassin's Creed did it for me. Hours seemed to just disappear while playing that game.

Kotor and Oblivion both sucked me in and kept me there. I keep going back to both these games, and I usually sit and beat Kotor in either one weekend or a short week. Both these games really own my soul...As I start Heavy Rain (hopefully today) I look forward to this experience again.

Probably the Mass Effect games. Or Grand Theft Auto IV when first stepping off the boat, being a stranger in a strange land as it were.
