No one has mentioned the Wii Sports/Play/Music/Fit series, which is quite surprising, though they aren't my pick.

For at least some series, you can argue that an overhaul is needed more than an execution. Longrunning series that have made efforts in the past to mix things up (e.g. Need for Speed, Call of Duty) can be defended by arguing that an overhaul is better than the guillotine. But if a series is story-based (like Halo or Gears of War), it should continue for only as long as the story continues. Otherwise, you're just pandering to the fans.

But if I had to axe a franchise, it might be Gran Turismo, for its sheer denial of the fact that there is a popular, accessible racing sim out there (Forza Motorsport) that has better game design. Maybe GT5 can change my mind, but it's too early to tell.
I kinda mentioned the Wii xxx titles.

None, hatred is the Path to the Dark Side and every game has it's place... okay fine, except for cheap Mini Game Collections for the Wii. Damn, now I've fallen next thing you know I'll be slaughtering innocent casual gamers and declaring myself Dark Lord of the Hard Core... it's tragic really but sadly my creator doesn't have the writing skills to really flesh out my story.
would that be a dig at a certan star like war movie? Now that you mention it i would go for starwars games but then and agin i have like a few

Sonic for the love of god.

I never 'got' the Sonic franchise, always felt like it was founded on a gimmick. With that said, I understand that it's garnered a certain amount of goodwill from a lot of gamers throughout the years, and it's done it's best as of late to completely destroy that good will. Knock it off Sega. You're not the same company that you were, stop acting like you are. Make fresh new stuff, like Valkria Chronicles.

The difference between Sonic and Mario is that the Mario franchise still feels fresh after countless reiterations because it continues to reinvent itself, and Nintendo continues to put years of care into every entry. If you must insist on continuing this charade Sega, you might want to learn something from them.

The Need for Speed series. Well, the games after NFS: Underground 2, anyway.

Final Fantasy. Since when has this series ever been good? Also we're approaching #XIII. Jesus christ! I seriously hope I'm not alive when Final Fantasy MMMDCXLII comes out.
Since it's first game if you look at the sales. People will buy FF XIII, XIV and so on because it is an FF title.
First of all, sales do not equal a good game, just a popular one. That may mean it is a good game, but the two terms are not synonymous. Second, I'd argue that the Final Fantasy series is one of the few series I don't want to see axed, since each game is generally its own entity and not really related to the previous titles. I realize they've cranked out a few sequels and spinoffs in recent years, but each numbered FF title is its own game. I don't think it deserves to die.

Its somthing to laugh and enjoy for its strangeness but na I'd like to see it live, doesn't mean its a good game though.

I never wrote that more sales means good but bad games don't sell very well. But on the other hand good games also don't sell well in some cases.

Sims. Actually i'd blow up EA and their stupid yearly releases altogether. Less competition for real developers.

Tomb Raider

I never liked the games, they were always littered with sloppy programming and filled with shitty bland art design and awkwardly animated control schemes.

Right. I wasn't trying to imply that that was what you meant. I was just saying that great games sometimes get overlooked (Psychonauts) in favor of mediocre or adequate games (Halo series). There are always games that are great and sell well, but this is not always going to happen. Generally speaking though, truly bad games rarely sell well.

Not one person has mentioned Devil May Cry, which I'm obscurely pleased about, though there were a few general comments about series' over 3 or 4 games long, which grasps it in it's all consuming net.

Is this because everyone likes it or just because no-one thought of it yet, and I'm now giving ideas away for free?

Not that I'm saying I want DMC to end, I think I probably count as a DMC fanboy, especially seeing as I've even watched the Anime that someone made about it.

I'm going to have to agree with the sonic games and the final fantasy series. I only played FFX, and FFX-2 which were enjoyable enough, but I'm just annoyed at the fact that most of the games (except X and X-2 which they messed up their own numbering system with) aren't even sequential in ANY WAY AT ALL!!! Apparently they're all set in the same world, but at different times in it's history, to which I feel I must put the question; "how many times can one planet be under threat by some kind of world destroying disaster?"

The daftest bit is, if Square Enix had just spent a tiny bit more time coming up with new names rather than lebelling each and every one with the same paradoxical moniker, they'd have been overlooked by this thread completely, and probably others.

4 should be the kill point for any series. As soon as there's a four in the title the sequels should stop!
With the exception Left *there is no 4* Dead.
Will the sequel be called "Left 5 Dead" or "Left 8 Dead?"
