Haven't played Fallout 2, can't comment on that GECK. In Fallout 3, however, you speak to the man who made the GECK -and- can activate it. Radiation is fucking magic in that game, instead of giving you cancer it turns you into a ghoul or gives you a 6th toe. Hell you can still farm the land not even 100 years after the world got nuked to all hell, never mind that radiation wears off in half lifes, never mind that the plants would die from fallout in the water, never mind the plants being irradiated and unsafe to eat! No, it really couldn't. I'm not trying to be ridiculously nitpicky here, but suspension of disbelief only forces me to buy into a broad premise, not every little detail. I can buy into a retro-futurist wasteland full of mutants and laser guns, but they're asking me to believe that a bunch of children maintain a breeding population for over a century (read the terminals, it's over a century), and somehow kick out every adult? Sorry, I just can't buy that.Little Lamplight... it could happen.
The fungus fights radiation and is a staple food source of theirs, scav teams bring back food and weapons and the mutants don't use the backdoor that the kids have barricaded, besides they have guns. Yes. That is exactly right. One is introducing a foreign element native to the setting, and one is attempting to convince me that human nature is fundamentally different in the Fallout universe. Actually, kids listen to people they hold in high esteem, or those who have power over them, not necessarily and adult. Besides, most teenagers enter that rebellious/alpha stage when they become teenagers, and they practically are adults 16. Doesen't matter about size either, guns are one hell of an equalizer and most of those kids pack a pistol at the very least. Let's also not forget that kids under the age of 16 can reproduce, they've gone through the proper maturation stages to be capable of it. So combine horny teens and oprhaned kids and it isn't impossible for Lamplight to keep a small population. Suspension of disbelief covers setting, which is what you mentioned (lasers and mutants); it does not (and never will) cover humans behaving in a way fundamentally against their nature.
Someone hasen't played Fable 3, otherwise you'd say that. Sorry, no sell. Couldn't happen. 13-15 year olds giving birth isn't exactly safe, and they have no trained medical professionals, no healthy diet, no one skilled enough to take care of infants.
