I think i can safely say that any kid who played LoZ:OoT was scared shitless by the well
I seond that motion. Though, as I was only about 6 or 7, I didn't get past the Deku Tree Interior for a good few months. It was the way it suddenly changed from bright, sunny, outdoors optimism to ominous, lowlit, and cavernous rooms, full of monsters.

When I was a kid, I remember sitting by the computer, me at the controls with my brother beside me, playing Doom. We loved that game! Anyways, walking down a dark corridor, and in Doom a dark corridor meant you couldn't see a damned thing! So walking down the corridor and all of a sudden, out of nowhere, and Imp blasts me with a fireball. Imps are the brown guys with spikes all over their bodies, that (obv) shoot fireballs. He was literally right in front of me when he shot, and the fireball lit up the hallway so all you saw was this bright red, your face in pain cause you got hit, and a screaming Imp right in front of you... I literally jumped out of my seat and screamed... Scariest moment of my gaming career!

The zombies from Resident Evil O.O! Even when there was nothing there, you could hear them! OMG ;( Fuck em, never played the old RE games... It migh not count but I felt quite proud of myself when I finished the RE5 demo^^ Still, scary games was much scarier back then, with not as good graphics your mind started to imagine the scariest things possible D: now the "scary" games is just about gore, admit it, dead space wouldn't be a least bit scary if the monsters didn't suddenly jump out at you!

Everything in Nightmare Creatures, as mentioned above The Shadow Temple and Bottom Of The Well. The music and atmosphere did it

The shark in that one beach-esque level in Banjo Kazooie. Every time I fell into the water I'd freak out because I knew that damn shark was coming.
Um I think you mean the sewer level "Clanker's Cavern" the beach was "Treasure Trove Cove"

The big fish from the original Half Life.

Even intentionally scary set pieces in games now fail to evoke the sheer dread I had of water levels in games after the first time that thing swam at me from out of nowhere.

The first time I saw a piece of water in HL2 I actually said outloud "Oh ****, not that b*stard again". Goddamn Fish...

Resident evil 1 directors cut, actually I found resident evil 2 a little less scary, maybe because it was in the city, less isolated.

And the Wall Masters that frequented them. The second one landed, I'd run and hide behind a wall or something until they jumped back into the roof

007 Goldeneye multiplayer matches cause my brother would always hid behind corners and watched my screen to know when to jump out and kill me
Also Ocarina of Time's well and shadow temple freaked me out. Mainly the ceiling hands and the zombies/mummies that scream at you

This ************ is the reason why I never finished Banjo Kazooie.

Goddamn it I thought I'd get that one in, lol! that bastrd petrified me when I first played the game, though when I came back to it (about 5 years later) I couldn't really see what I was so scared of. Then I got into his fleshy, saw-blade filled interior.

Ahh another thread to make me feel old.

Well the ghosts in the graveyard of the Quest For Glory game (or back then as it was called Hero's Quest)
Seriously made me break out in a sweat because they would instantly kill you after you accidentally wandered into the graveyard at night, which considering how samey most of the forest looked, was very likely. This could be stopped by a specific protective potion which you rubbed on your skin. Do not drink it! It won't work!

There was also a cat that would straight up murder you when you were robbing the old womans' house. The fear of getting mauled by house cats that morph in to panthers is what kept me on the straight and narrow as a kid.

Good times. I remember trying to charge at top speed to the castle, then the gates would shut on my slowly and leave me outside with those guys. Eeh.

Such a massive list to call up:
- Without my brother-in-laws help I would have never even gone inside the Deku Tree. (Ocarina of Time)
- Abe's Oddysee, ALL OF IT.
- Any time you have to go inside a body- Ape Escape, Ocarina of Time, Kingdom Hearts...
- When watching my sister play Rings Of Power, I hated that when you died this horrible face would come up.
- Fighting Vulcan Raven in the cold storage. (MGS)
- In Rayman Revolution, there were these shadow caterpillars that you could never kill... with horrible yellow eyes...
