Halo would have been better without Halo3. Imagine how everyone would think about the Halo series if the entire Bungie studio died tragically, say-even better- a spaceship crashes into it. Not only would we be left with the greatness that was Halo 1 & 2, but it would be a tragic event that they never got to 'finish the fight'. And it would be freakin awesome.

i think halo 3 ruined it for the game, in the first 2 (not so much the second) there was a sense that cheif was a bit desperate and it was all going a bit wrong, but he/you fights through it and eventually kick some lete arse and kill some zombie/mutant/infected things and save the day, but in the third the game seemed to forget to have any plot other than cortana and the hive mind, it completly forgot about the arbiter (who was my favourate character from h2) and it failed to explain the sudden huge trust that humanity and elites now have, halo three is the only one where i didn't want to play the campaign again after the first time i did it

I know the Golden Axe series is going to be ruined by Beast Rider, just like Streetwise crapped all over Final Fight.

I'm not so cynical that I can't have fun with a game unless it's absolutely atrocious, so with that being said I've never really played a bad sequel >_>

I judge games on their own, individually, by the enjoyment I find within them. And as such, no sequel I've ever played has been a letdown. Maybe if people would learn to take things as they come, without judging things on their previous relations, they too could enjoy sequels like I do :D

I guess TC means "series".

My vote goes to Deus Ex Invisible War - though DE3 should bring redemption.

Metal Gear Solid 2. The moment Hideo Kojima proved video game designers could be as overzealous and self indulgent as film makers.

Monkey Island 4/ Escape from Monkey Island.

Broken Sword 3 & 4.

Am I the only one who's going to say none? A game isn't ruined by it's sequel, I can easily go back to the first and have as much fun as I did before I played the sequel.
I beg to differ. I guess this is a personal thing, but sometimes stories in games give an ending which we're satisfied with, but after playing a sequel that's poor, I'll play the original game knowing that later on in the history of the series things only get worse (as in less entertaining).

That's probably not a good description. Maybe if I use Broken Sword as an example. In the first game, I get the feeling that this would be the single most important, life changing experience for George Stobbart. But after playing so many dire sequels, I now play the original knowing that's not the case, as he has plenty more experiences like it. It also breaks the suspension of disbelief.

Sorry if I've waffled on here.

why didn't anyone say crash bandicoot?
Oh yes. And just about every 3D platformer for that matter. Problem with many sequels to platformers are-
-They suddenly give the main characters 'attitude' (presumably to keep the attention of the fanbase that started young but is now growing older). See Klonoa 2, the later Spyro games, Sonic.
-Lots of new characters which feel arbetrary and annoying (again, Spyro and Sonic)
-Soundtracks often become quite poor in comparison
-Obviously game mechanics can become stale
-Locations also lose their sense of originality

I've totally never understood the whole "DMC 2 sucks ass" argument, it's really no worse than any of the rest of them. That said, this is an easy question: Deus Ex: Invisible War. Worst sequel ever.

Gothic.
The first two games were completely awesome and some of the best RPGs ever created.

So for the third installment, the developers somehow decided to take everything that's good about Gothic and chuck it out, like for example quests that are actually interesting or a story for which you don't have to look with a magnifying glass. Instead, we now have a huge world with an obscene amount of utterly boring side quests like "collect five cans of milk from right over there".

Everyone seemed to gush over God of War 2 as the perfect, perfect game, but I was so disgusted with it that I returned it the next day (after finishing it).
I loved the first one, which had story and character and some nice and original enemies, but the second one was just about IDENTICAL in every way. Except that Kratos now had NO character or motivation, only spewing "I'm Angry!" clichés left and right. And I am charitable if I say that there was a grand total of two new enemy types in the game. Some of the boss fights were nice, though, but in general I thought it far too similar to the first one and with a decided lack of motivation and dialogue for the protagonist.

Fortunately, Chains of Olympus was way, way, WAY better in that respect.

Pokemon is rubbish now; Misty isn't even in it!
As for Final Fantasy 7, I love the game as much as the next fangirl, but they've whored the game out enough. I've got Advent Children, DoC, seen Last Order and have the original game. I haven't played Crisis Core (But I have seen the ending. And cried. *face palm*) It's rumoured they will make a sequel to DoC, and remake the actual game.
D;
Just let it die already!

This might be an unpopular one but my memories of Mario Kart and Mario Kart 64 have been dicked on from a great height by Mario Kart Wii. They successfully managed to destroy the competitiveness of the games whilst also breaking the flow and game handling.

64 always felt like most of the time the best player (driver+weapon user) won.
Wii is just luck in all players and easy on single player.

Crash: Twinsanity took the classic Crash formula, and butchered it. Death to Twinsanity.

Alien vs Predator, lets just think briefly about the 2 sequels this game has had.

AVP2 was much inferior to the first game since the focus shifted away from horror unless you were the alien (traditonally in horror, the monster shouldn't be afraid) and became what was more or less a straight up shooter (multiplayer was above average though).

AVP: Extinction was an abomination though, it was a console RTS that had reams of problems. Firstly, no skirmish mode, there was only the campaign (this also means that most of the defensive units in the game are pretty much redundant since the campaign had no defensively based missions). Secondly, the difficulty was somewhere between unreasonable and satanic (a squad of 3 grunts with a single medic, a flamethrower and a robot have to blast their way through an entire alien nest with no assistance? sounds easier than it is).

Snowboard Kids. the first one was amazing and, although the second one was good, they took out the characters special moves and put too much emphasis on a story rather than just racing. the courses were good but they were over done, the basicnes of the courses in the first one were partly what made it so much fun, multiplayer was even better.

halo i loved the first one then the second one came out and all the fun of the first one was gone.
i must have played through the first ones story over 50 times and played assualt on the control room 200+
and halo2 i played once
Agreed. Halo:CE is the best. I must have completed every level about 100 times and assualt on the control room about 500 times. Best level in all of Halo.

There's a trend here.
I played Halo 2 quet a bit but not nearly as much as the first and I havn't bought Halo 3.
