The first game I remember playing extensively was some ski sports game. The menu screen was a map of a ski resort where you would walk to the discipline you wished to play, like choosing a level in some of the Commander Keen games. I don't remember many of the disciplines, but I do remember the one where you had to go down the slopes on a rubber ring. I told a friend about it, but he confused it with another ski sports game, which had ski shooting, tobogganing, slalom, ice skating, and ski jumping. I can't remember the names of either, but those were the first two I remember playing a lot. Later came Red Alert, Heroes of Might and Magic 3, and the first Grand Theft Auto.
If this game was on the NES then I believe you might be speaking of the game 'Ski or Die'.

OT: I believe my first game was super mario 3, pokemon yellow, then Super Smash Bros. in that order between 3 and 6

Hmmm, just checked out screenshots from ski or die. It wasn't on the NES, I played it on my dad's computer. But it looks like it was made from the same concept as ski or die.

Wolfenstein 3D and Doom were the first ones I played when I was about 6 or 7. After that I played Simcity 2000 (CONSTANTLY) and Myst. Until I was like 15 I would only get a new game like every 6 months :/

The first game I ever truly played was Age of Empires.

There were other games like Freddi Fish and Myst, but the first game I ever played seriously was AoE.

I was about 5 or 6 years old when the Atari 2600 was bleeding edge technology. I was staying at a friend's house when his father came home with one, and a copy of Asteroids. I was so enamored with it that I could hardly put it down. It entranced me how I could shoot a dot from a vaguely shaped triangle and make those chunky flickering boulders just fly apart all over the screen.

From then on, every time I encountered an arcade machine, a computer (I loved my Vic20), anything that came across as remotely video game related, I'd just have to stop for a quick play.

Gaming has changed so much since then, but still, nothing makes me feel the way I do when I really enjoy a truly quality game.

As A kid My bro had a spectrum 48 so grew up with hungry horace, attic attack, Jet pack and bubble bobble, but it wasn't until my early teens that gaming really took me and by then I had an Amiga games like sensible soccer, New Zealand story, Cannon Fodder, Lemmings and Speedball 2 were awesome. But socially It was all about the Snes my mate jonny had. Streetfighter and Mario Kart got played for hours and hours and hours until one day Goldeneye changed everything...

I got into gaming by the work of my grandfather, who got me a gensis when I was three, and I slowly moved up through more challenging games on the snes, then when I got my first playstion I really got into RPGs with games like Final Fantasy VII and Tactics, and Lunar 1, although I love the new games of today, me and my 88 year old grandfather still hang out and play classic games almost every day

Believe it or not, my dad came home one fateful night with a Playstation 2. It was love at first sight. I was probably 7-9 years old at the time. The only game my dad bought with it was GTA: III. I would sit in his lap, placing my hands over his as we mowed down pedestrians in an ambulance we stole after shooting someone. I remember the way he guided my fingers over the buttons, showing me how to ice a cop. Before long, I could have sex with a hooker and kill her to get my money back all by myself. He was so proud of me. Those were the good days.

I was a total SNES hog. I used to play it with my brother all the time.

And I remember my N64. Good times.
