Grew up on FPS games. I think the first non-arcade game I played was Halo 2. I didn't play video games until I was around 11 or 12.

The first game I ever played was Super Mario Bros on the SNES... Or Donkey Kong Country (can't quite recall).

The genre I grew up playing though would have to be a mixture of RPG's and Racing games.

Platformers and adventure games. I think that's the reason I hate brown/gray "realistic" games so much, I see no imagination or fun behind them. give me banjo-kazooie any day. I'd rather play as a bear with a bird in his backpack collecting puzzle pieces to fight an evil witch and save his sister with the help of a witchdoctor who can turn him into other animals (when you say it like that is sounds silly) over you are soldier #834765 go kill those guys because they are fighting for a country that is not yours...
I think I started flaming halfway through that and i apologize.

I grew up on RTS's, with the first being AOE. Followed by RA2 and others. Now I hardly ever play RTS's because I don't have a computer that can run them.

I grew up with a SNES and most of the games that I can remember having were side-scrolling platform games like Super Mario World (my very first video game) and the the 3 Super Star Wars games. I also had a couple of other games, one of which was PilotWings which was a flight simulator.

Same here, while at the same time, I played adventure games on the PC.

The first games i played were platformers. Side scrolling fighters like Twin Dragons, Ninja Turtles, battle toads, street fighters, you know the likes. From there i played fighters like MK and Tekken, But i really grew up on RTS's and Chess, thats were i spent my most time in my gaming youth. I'm talking C&C Red Alert, Warcraft, and Age of Empires. Then i moved to FPSs when i hit my consoling adolescents. I evolved into western RPGs, FPSs, and hockey games.

Well, technically I played the old Mario games back in the SNES days, but I didn't really get into gaming until Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. After that, I played every RPG I could get my hands on.

I grew up with the original Red Alert.
I still love all C&C games, except the last one. C&C4: TW can go and die in a fire repeatedly.
I played StarCraft rather early too.

Sad fact is that even so I'm note very good with RTS's. Either that or all my friends kick my ass in them.

I can't really recall the FIRST game I ever played, something on the NES I'm sure. I DO however remember the first game that I got into, and that was Tomba! followed immediately by the sequel Tomba! 2: The Evil Swine Return. When I was 8 I put my whole life into that game...ahh the good 'ol days. Creative, obscure platformers FTW.

Dynasty Warriors 4, FTW.

Grew up on the SNES with a healthy mix of platforming and rpg games, mainly super mario world and super mario rpg. My first ever "real" game though was jurasic park 2 on the SNES.

I grew up playing a lot of Dungeon Keeper and C&C: Tiberian Sun, so a lot of RTS. First game I ever played was Jump Start Knowledge Adventure, which was ok I suppose since it helped me learn a lot of facts, and quite terrible in that I don't remember any of those facts...

I grew up with sidescrollers mostly. Sonic, Altered Beast, Golden Axe, I still love playing all those Sega classics. However as soon as I got a PS1 I fell in love with JRPGs which includes all the Final Fantasys on that system, Chrono Cross and Legend of Legaia.
