The first game I played was Ninja Gaiden. I grew up playing Mario,Crash Bandicoot, the FF series, and The Star Wars Pod Racing Game on the old 64. (Internet cookie for anyone that can tell me what that freakin game was called).

Oh yeah, and Pokemon. If only I could get that portion of my childhood back, I would put it into something useful like...something else...

earliest game types I can remember playing were co-op side-scrollers and fighting games (specifically mortal kombat on the sega genesis at approx. age 6) with my older brother. So those pretty much controlled my childhood (still terrible at both of those somehow).

I'm surprised there weren't more wee PC gamers. We never had a console growing up, so I played things like Lode Runner, Treasure Mountain, Duke Nukem, Commander Keen, Lemmings, Jazz Jackrabbit, and One Must Fall: 2097. Watching Youtube vids of those games makes me very nostalgic. However, the game that first defined me as a "gamer" was Ocarina of Time.

Grew up on the NES the classics like Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Brothers, Double Dragon, Metroid, Mega Man, and Punch Out. Great stuff that brought videogames back to life after Atari's crap like ET.

I started gaming far earlier, but I was raised on the JRPG's of last generation not named Final Fantasy as well as platformers. I have very fond memories of Golden Sun, Jak and Daxter, and the Shin Megami Tensei series and those games have structured my expectations for games. Unfortunately, due to my poor financial state, I can't really compare them to this generation.

JRPG bashing makes me feel bad...

I grew up on RPG's like the Gold Box D&D games Curse of the Azure Bonds, it's probably what got me into pen and paper gaming and video games

snes generation platformers, the first one owned was super mario world, not sure if it was the first I played. I'm disappointed at the fact that platformers have gotten rarer, but we got a bunch of new ones this past season so maybe there making a come back.

Well since my first major consoles were the NES and N64 I played plenty of platformers, fun little things they were.

I don't remember the first game I played, but the earliest games I remember playing were Super Mario Bros. 1 and 3.

If there are any GOOD old school platformers on Steam I would sure love some recommendations.

I was raised on Quake 3: Revolution for PS2, and I have no prominent mental issues. Other that that glorious game of chainguns and mandibles flying through te air, Halo and Soulcalibur II were my favorites.

Pokemon on the gameboy, Starfox 64, Goldenyee, perfect dark, Hydro thunder, super smash bros, sonic the hedgehog. Then in my xbox years, Halo CE and brute force got me really into gaming.

I remember playing Quake, Doom, Hexen, Redneck Rampage and Duke Nukem 3D. Ah, the nostalgia of 90s FPS games

I also remember digging out an old Nintendo and playing Gauntlet, Mario and Duck Hunt

RPG/RTS. Warcraft, Starcraft, Total Annihilation, Dark Omen, Homeworld, Sacrifice, Planescape: Torment, Dungeon Keeper, Arcanum, Baldur's Gate, System Shock 2 and a few other things.

Good fun, if perhaps not the best selection of games for someone at age 6ish.

Dig Dug and Mr. Do on the Colecovision. Now, the first real games I can recall are RPG's and Adventure games - Kings Quest, Space Quest, Phantasy Star, Zelda, Ultima and Bard's Tale.

Also a nice healthy dose of the SSI/TSR series - Pool of radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds, Secret of the Silver Blades. I still have the collector's editions in the box on 3.5 inch disks... and I haven't had a disk drive like that in years

First ever game? The original Diablo, and it blew my freakin' mind. After that I was mostly a PC only gamer, sticking with RPGs like Baldur's Gate, RTS like Starcraft/Warcraft/C&C, and eventually FPS like Halo, Medal of Honor, and Mech Warrior (it kinda counts). Then I got a ps2 and xbox in my teenage years and starting playing a lot of JRPGs, and various other games from the genres I played on PC. Kinda proud to say those genres I played as a kid are still my favorite, with the admittedly big exception of JRPGs, which I just kinda grew out of, and now I really can't play them at all.
