Maybe I know... I know a man (my grandfather hes still alive) who had a heart attack in the hospital. He was "clinically dead" for about 6 minutes.
Do you know what he told me about what he experienced?
Nothing. Nothing at all.

oh, there's a [tunnel, ladder, rope bridge, chasm] immediately after death that you [ascend, travel, cross] where all your [chosen deity, family members you never met, hellish demons and screams from the damned] greet you. You then spend all eternity [basking in the love of, cowering in fear of] your chosen deity unless you're reincarnated in which case you come back.

Death is when the process we call "life" ceases, and we, the person, no longer exists.

A we can see, once dead, this is rarely a problem for individuals concerned.

However, i hope that something or other does happen after death- i mean, reality sucks (thats why i like reading and gaming) how bad can this world get?

Your born, you grow up, go through education, get a job, raise children, retire as your body starts to break down, and then die. And thats it. A rather interesting afterlife of sorts could justify a pretty pointless and moderatly entertaining life on Earth- but just because something is a "should" does not make it an "is". All i can do is hope.

Your body is put in the morgue for a bit then you're either cremated or dressed up, put in a box and dumped 6 feet under ground.

Unless you got horribly murdered and someone doesn't want you to be found, then you'll probably be dumped in a hole in the woods.

A friend of mine was in a motorcycle accident and was pronounced dead and was revived 3 minutes later ( now i call him Zombie :p )I asked him what death was like and he just said, "nothing, its just nothingness coloured black"

Well, I do think it's possible that during my lifetime technology will be developed that will allow indefinite life extension, i.e. you could live as long as you like and the only thing that would kill you would be external force.
How could we achieve this? Bio- and nanotechnology, we could have tons of little machines inside our bodies constantly repairing and maintaining it.

This is what I believe:
Same as before birth. Nothingness. As to how it feels... well, I experience long periods of nothingness every night. And when I'm uncouncious.

So really, there is nothing to fear. There is nothing to prove. There is nothing to wait for.

And that is why I find great comfort in life.
How certain are you that there wasn't something prior to your life that you merely forgot?

Given all the breakthroughs we are having in the area of medical science i won't rule out the possibility of extended life-spans being devloped in our life time. A society where people can live for much longer periods of time than normally humans can would be an interesting one-

It would mean, assumiming this technology is avalible to all, that population growth in the western world would increase back to pre-20th century levels. The workforce would also be more experenced hence more productive, efficent, and techological advancements could come more quickly as scientists could apply over a hunderd years worth of work experence to their research.
On the other hand, society could become more conservative, due to the lack of young peope pushing through new beliefs and attitudes. Over crowding could be a probelem, and to counter this, people tend not to have children. Marrage could become outdated, and people drift from one relationship to the other as the centuries go by. Ideas such as "love" and "soul mate" could become outdated as well, as love is no longer seen as perniment. People can still die from accidents though, so perhaps death will be be seen as an even more trajic event than it is seen now.

DO WANT. I'd like to live long enough for any aliens out there to finally land formally to meet with us, their pet project, and call us all a bunch of fuck up's. Because we are... and I blame Capitalism and Religion.

I think that you either get cupcakes or stand next to the unreachable table with cupcakes. My vision of Heaven and Hell.
