It's nice to see that no one in this thread is even the SLIGHTEST bit arrogant.
*WINK*

It's fun to guess where people are from based on the tone of their posts. The ones who are miserable about the place the live in are usually British[footnote]That's where I live. It's so... grey[/footnote]. The ones who are semi-sarcastically bigging up minor things in a pretty funny way are mostly Australian or Canadian... and then the people who are genuinely proud of themselves for living in a country that invented some pretty cool shit are almost universally American.

Although I suspect a lot of them aren't taking it as seriously as their posts might suggest, so that's alright.

OT: I don't know, I guess we had some people that made some things? We've had a long and varied history, I guess we got a headstart.

so there wasn't open war? big deal, many still died.
There wasn't a war between the various seperate colonies, or the British authorities, I mean.

OP: Oh, Africa...the species evolved there. I'm not African, but I have African ancestry (my species evolved there).

TEchnically, yes, Africa isn't a nation, but it would have been (kinda) when the species started evolving...the only one unless you believe that convergent evolution rubbish that says the Chinese are almost a different species.

Russia saved Europe from the Tatar invasion (by taking one for the team for a few hundred years)
Russia saved Europe in 1812 (except you France)
Saved again in 1945 (Don't pretend the US did it, Berlin was taken by the USSR.

And tons of hot women...
I'm not even American when I say this (Australian) but I think you misrepresent the situation in 1945 a little bit. Not that I'm not saying Russia involvement wasn't bigger or more significant than the US's but the war was won when the US joined in because they provided the shear weight numbers that ended the war.
Also A slight little aside completely off topic but I heard that in Russia they teach America faked the moon landings. Is that true?

By the time of the D-Day landings, the Third Reich was already being defeated by the USSR. It almost became a race between the Allied powers to see who could get to the best bits of Germany first. On the other hand, the US was supplying the USSR quite a bit. It's very difficult to take such a massive endeavour between allies and say "this is the one that did it".

On the other hand, the USSR didn't even declare war on Japan until the other allies (predominately the US) had defeated them.

The inventor of the internet was British (Tim Berners-Lee), the Industrial Revolution, Red Dwarf, Blackadder, freeing slaves 50 years beofre America, the first digital computer (Colossus), Issac Newton, Rockstar Games, Stephan Hawking, Stephan Fry, Lionhead Studios, the English Breakfast, fish and chips.
That enough yet?

Dude... You must've grown up in the height of the Cold War or something...

The turning point of the war was between 23 August 1942 and 2 February 1943 in the battle of Stalingrad. When the Germans, who till then were steadily advancing through Russia, were set running out by the counteroffensive. After that it was about pushing the Germans back to Berlin...
And the US joined in... 1944? And may I add, only to get the spoils of war. Fact.
Also you might not even know, that after USSR took Berlin, THEY TURNED AROUND and went to help the US fight Japan (the Manchurian campaign)...
Not to sound like a jerk, but go read a damn history book. Preferrably written by Germans about the war. The US really propagandized WWII...

Moon landing.
Gagarin was first in space. So space is a big deal for Russia. We usually laugh off the "fake moon landing theories" in favor of "Humanity conquering space"
Ironically I saw a documentary where Cosmonauts were defending the Astronauts and clarifying that the moon landing did take place.
