Modest Mouse, RHCP and SOAD which are regular staples of mine.

But also super listening to Silversun Pickups. Love them. This song has been my focus (though I have been cycling through Pikul and their albums on repeat too):

When I'm at the computer, I seem to be listening to a lot of Sabaton (While playing MWO).

While out in the woods, I've been listening to my stock wandering music, the Crypt of the Necrodancer OST (And it's Remixes) and the Neir Automata OST.

Wagakki Band. They mix together hard rock with traditional japanese instruments. I love it.

Same sort of stuff I always listen to, mostly prog-rock, with some other stuff mixed in. My playlist has over a thousand songs on it (I generally just put it on shuffle), but I've got a few that have really embedded themselves in my brain lately:

There's also my favorite song ever, which gets regular play:

And I've also been playing both versions of Blue Oyster Cult's song "Astronomy," trying to figure out which one I like more.

I've had some bits and bobs on my playlist recently:

Got introduced to these guys on reddit, turns out their album from this year is easily my album of the year so far. Somewhere between Insomnium and Wintersun style melodic death metal with a mix of heavy-as-shit riffs, awesome melodic phrases and catchy songs. Really good.

More melodeath! I'd been looking forward to Galaktikon II for ages; I'm a massive fan of Brendon Small's work, especially Dethklok and I was gutted when Adult Swim canned the show because it meant we wouldn't get anymore of the ridiculously good albums that came after each season. Thankfully Brendon decided to finish the show's plotline off in this album under a different name and it's so good. It's unmistakably a Dethklok album right down to the vocals, riffs and Gene Hoglan's massive drumming and damn I love it.

Got recommended these on Spotify. Symphonic melodic death metal with a lot of Middle Eastern lyrical and musical influences. Very tasty.

I have been super jamming this song recently - been learning it as part of my piano jazz drills and I found this Jamie Cullum cover and fell in love with it.

Thank you, thank you. You can blame my parents for exposing me to stuff like this since as far back as I can remember (the first concert I ever attended was a Yes show my dad took me to when I was a kid, and just last year he and I went together to see them again).

I like some of what you've posted there, too. I'd never heard of "Galaktikon," but I will have to look more into it, now.

With regards to metal, I tend to prefer the lighter end of the genre (with reference to this scale [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MohsScaleOfRockAndMetalHardness], the highest I tend to go is around 7), mostly due to the vocal style. The moment the singer starts growling, I just can't listen further. Even if I like the melody, more than a second or two of growling unfortunately makes it impossible for me to keep listening. It might just be an autism sensory thing, I couldn't tell you for certain.

Actually, that might be related to why Blue Oyster Cult is my favorite metal band: they're just hard enough to qualify as metal, but not so hard that there's any of the stuff that bothers me about heavier metal (growling, more "wall of sound" than actual melodies, that sort of thing). Though even after listening to both versions over a dozen times each, I still can't decide which version of "Astronomy" to copy to the smaller (due to hard drive space limits) playlist on my phone, the more atmospheric original, or the more polished later version.

There's two main bands I've been listening too:

British rock band, earlier stuff is a bit Nu-metal/angsty but their sound has developed alot over the years:

Dutch Symphonic Metal band

Hm, first time I've seen that: I would say my preferred range starts off around 5 and goes up to 8 or 9. I would say I flirt a bit with 9, but that's about it.

Its funny: I like a lot of progressive sounding sub-genres (Prog rock/metal, Power metal, Symphonic etc.) but its the heavier side that usually sits best with me. But bands like Yes are still amazing.

Hah I'd love to see Yes, bet that was an awesome concert :D In terms of that kind of psychedelic-y rock, ever check out The Claypool Lennon Delirium? Sean Lennon (as in, John Lennon's son) and Les Claypool from Primus teaming up to play some totally awesome psych-proggy stuff

I like the version of Astronomy from Imaginos, I'd not heard that version of it before. Not as good as the original though, it's a bit too busy for my tastes. I like the kind of spacy feel to the original recording.

Unfortunately, I do not remember anything about that first concert aside from the fact that we went, and that it was an outdoor area, with an open stage at the bottom of a grassy hill. The show last year was awesome. It was Jon Anderson, Trevor Rabin, and Rick Wakeman playing.
Funny story: this was in November, only a couple weeks after the Presidential election. And one of the songs they played was "Hold On." If you're not familiar, one of the lyrics is "Constitution screw-up shattering the dreams." And as Jon sang that line, he looked out over the audience with a very sympathetic expression on his face.

No, I've never heard of The Claypool Lennon Delirium. I'll have to check them out.

Imaginos is interesting. It's a concept album that Pearlman had been working on for years, since even before BOC existed, with a really impenetrable story (it involves time travel, shapeshifters, the Cthulhu Mythos, and on top of that the songs aren't even in chronological order to begin with). I believe Astronomy was always intended to be part of it, but they ended up recording it and putting it on Secret Treaties while Imaginos languished in development hell, with a later recording being on Imaginos proper.
Yeah, the original version has a much better atmosphere to it, but I dunno, the Imaginos version just sounds a bit more... what do I call it, polished? Yeah, that's it. The original was really minimalistic and felt slightly unfinished. Still a goddamn masterpiece, though. Like I said, I really don't know which one I like more.
Imaginos is a great album though. Upsets me that it was so poorly-received when it did come out because it has some fantastic stuff on it.

They seem pretty awesome, it's hard to find music that emphasizes instruments nowadays, plus I love female vocals in rock as it gives a natural contrast to the sound. I checked out a few of their videos, the only issue I have is their songs sound pretty similar, even the tempo is basically the same from song to song, hopefully their deep tracks tend to that. To me, the greatest "trick" to perform as a musician/band is to have an identifying sound while having a good range of sound variance.

Shiina Ringo is by far my favorite Japanese artist and possibly even just plain my favorite artist over the likes of Zeppelin and Queen.
