Focus on my breathing and keeping the mind blank, eventually I just fall asleep (it is wickedly boring though :p).

Being bored out of my mind, I would say tiring physical activities but weirdly that just makes me more pumped, I try getting tired by working out a bit but then I just want to do more :p

Am I the only one that finds it extremely hard to fall asleep in silence because when it is silent I just start thinking about everything and anything reviewing everything I have ever known or experienced in my head.

If things are getting desperate after other methods have been tried :] Then I will try to solve a mathematical equation, nothing hard, or I will read until I simply can't continue (boredom or tiredness).

Couple glasses of Jack and Coke usually does the trick, alternately i could just lie in the dark and watch a film, i can never reach the end.

Crawling into the smallest space I can fit into and hugging my knees so I can pretend I never left the womb and this horrible existence is just a fleeting foetus-nightmare.

If that fails, alcohol.

I hop on the iPlayer site and just set a radio show off, just half an hours talking sends me off, silence creeps me out.

I can routinely fall asleep as long as I hear a ticking clock.
Really? I can't stand ticking personally. I have to stash away all time-keeping devices, as that constant sound really irritates me...

O.T. I personally like herbs under my pillow. A soothing smell can really help sleep come to you.

In a perfect world, sex and cuddling with a girl.
It's true. Cuddling is a million times better than any glass of warm milk, soft music, or happy thoughts.

I'm not sure. Whenever I can't sleep I think if I stop trying to go to sleep I'll get tired. Sleeping can be a real pain.

Cuddling and happy thoughts tend to go hand-in-hand, don't they?

Mm, definitely. Nothing like cozy physical contact to help you drift off peacefully.

OT: Since cuddling is out of the question for me right now, I help myself sleep by counting my breaths and focusing on a mantra repeated over and over. The Litany Against Fear [http://alcoman.railfan.net/fear.html] seems to be the most helpful.
