well, imagine if long, long ago, our ancestors really DID reach space. And had lightspeed travel as well. They leave, not understanding that tens of thousands of years will pass on Earth, and only come back to find us, in the year 2010. So in reality, we still are the only sentient lifeforms in existance, just we traveled around a bit and forgot about the travelers.

I'd be a bit dissapointed that humans were the only "intelligent" life the universe could come up with.

Heheh. We've treated members our own species like shit for "looking different". Would them looking like us but being a different species make a difference?

Well, given the size of the universe, there are probably thousands upon thousands of planets almost exactly like ours, which inhabitants exactly like us. I mean exactly, right up until we meet, I supose.

Not that we will meet. The universe is just too fucking huge. Can't even see them right now because the light hasn't reached us.

if they're just like us... wow you really want to wish that on us?

does anyone remember the meaning behind the words: mutually assured destruction?
we have enough to worry about amoungst ourselves, let alone another planet comprised of paranoid, destructive pieces of mass idiocy.

i guess it comes down to: which planet makes the other into soylent green first.

might sound pessimistic, but really, that's pretty much how it would go down, the optimists and peaceable ones are not in control here...

There are some possibilities:
1) Humanity is the most likely form to develop sapience.
2) Humanity developed in two different places by complete coincidence.
3) Humanity as we know it is an experiment of sorts, or at least a seeding of some kind by an alien race who are physically the same as us, but clearly have a very different (more 'advanced'?) sense of morality.
4) All humanity was 'seeded' by an entirely different race of aliens.

Can't think of any more off the top of my head. But yeah, until I knew which one of these it was (if any), I'd be reserving judgment and excitement.

I'd be much more interested if there was an alien that somehow developed COMPLETELY differently to us, down to an entirely different consciousness, to be honest. More humans would kinda bore me.

You have an obsession with Venture Bros?
Not exactly my favorite character to be associated with, but oh well.

then it would be a major mindfuck to know were not unique and everything is kinda the same
That, with a disappointing look at "evolution".
"So... this is really the best that natural selection can come up with?" At least it rules out "intelligent" design.

It was either that, or Billy Quizzboy. I just think your post fits the tone of the show so well.

Well if they'd be like us, both sides would call bullshit and blame the US/Russia/China/Japan/North Korea/Iran or some other secretly evil country (I'm looking at you Lichtenstein) or the other planet's respective country. War ensues and everyone ends up dead! Yay! Then we get to play Fallout all the time!

Now I want a pet Yao Gui.
