I'd be extremely disappointed, mean yeah they're aliens, but where's the excitement in interacting with a civilization that for all intents and purposes is identical to us?

Compare pie and and cake recipes? Honestly, that'd be boring as fuck. We'd presumably journey to the stars to find something different and kill/have sex with it. What interest would an occurrence like that hold other than its own sheer improbability?

We found the normal people from a galaxy far, far, away!
Rejoice! They are not all pathetic whiny protagonists (speaking of prequel trilogy of course)

How would you feel if the first contact we had we aliens was with a race that was exactly like humans, same colors, religions, countries, and issues.
Does this mean that there is another me on this world? In that case, would I have to kill him to establish myself as the dominant self? Would I then have 2 girlfriends, and therefore be a "player"?

That'd be really disappointing, and alot of people would be really bummed that they don't get to have sex with something blue. This begs the question of who's more advanced though, whoever found the other one first would be the more advanced ones. If it's them, then maybe they've cracked the human gene and they have psychic powers and can live to be 500, and if it's us... that'd still be disappointing.

Something tells me that humanity will still screw it up and end up waging war.

Personally? That would make relating to them even easier. (Referring to them sharing the same traits as us , unrelated to the "waging war" statement.)
This, I personally think them being similar to us will only make it more likely for us to declare war on each other.

I would befriend one, then learn their history. It would be like earth, but with an alternate history! WIN!
