How would you feel if the first contact we had we aliens was with a race that was exactly like humans, same colors, religions, countries, and issues.

I would be incredibly shocked, but ultimately wouldn't care all that much.

Something tells me that humanity will still screw it up and end up waging war.

Personally? That would make relating to them even easier. (Referring to them sharing the same traits as us , unrelated to the "waging war" statement.)

(sort of)Joke answer: I'm with you two.

Serious answer: It would make it easier to understand them and make peace.

Or, like any new contact, could lead to animosity and conflict.

I think I'd be really interested to find out how the heck that happened. Oooo... getting brilliant thoughts about time travel explinations and quotations for the Hitch-hiker's giude to the galaxy.
In all seriousness though, if they were exactly like us how did they invent space travel when we haven't (or visa vera if we go to them). It stands to reason that something's going to be different. I think that would be the most interesting thing, to find out that conclusively.

I'd call up the producers and writers of Battlestar Galactica to ask for advice...oh wait what.
