What is a game you were surprised you hated?

Fable 2...I honestly thought they were going to improve it.
I didn't hate it, but I just wasn't as impressed as I thought I was going to be. It looked great, the dog was cool, but it just didn't feel that "new," know what I mean?

FIFA 09 would be my pick for this honor, and it comes as quite a surprise. I've owned every FIFA game ever made, and this one far and away let me down more than anything else. I mostly play offline games and manager mode, so I wont go into depth regarding the numerous glitches in the online mode. Now, when I got this game, I loved every bit of it, but two seasons into my first Manager Mode, the game froze/locked/hung up and wouldn't continue. "Oh well," I thought and started a new one. Four seasons into the next, the same thing, then three seasons into the next and so on. This happened for ten MM seasons that I tried and everyone hung/froze/locked up on me.

The real sad part of the story is that there were quite a few others like me posting about this problem on the forums, and EA's response was, "well, it isn't happening to the majority, so it must be your disc/xbox/ps3/fault/etc..."

I went from being 100% in love with that game, to feeling 100% cheated and ignored!

Final Fantasy 12 was the worst disappointment in recent memory. I was a huge fan of the turn based combat from previous games in the series which was replaced with MMO style real time run and wank combat.

Fable also disappointed for having such a terrible story for an rpg

Fallout 3, I enjoyed it for a month and then stopped completely, I'm dammed if I'm paying through GFWL for some tacked on content which should have been in the main game in the first place. I felt, in short, Fallout 3 needed more meat.

I'm rarely surprised when I hate a game, to be honest I'm more often surprised when I play a game I don't expect to like and end up loving it.

That said, the last few Tony Hawk games have been shockingly poor, particularly considering how great the series once was. Also, Final Fantasy 12. I suppose I could potentially grow to love it, but I abandoned it fairly quickly because the combat system irritated me and I found myself not caring about the characters.

Halo Wars. It was my first RTS, and I think it kind of spoiled the genre for me, it really took the "S" out of RTS.

I know I'll get slaughtered for this, but as beautiful as the game was, I found Ico very easy to put down and forget about. I played for about 5 hours straight when I first picked it up and then it just faded into the background.

Doom 3, though that wasn't nearly hate. I was expecting to love that game, and when I played it (admittedly several years ago) I didn't like it as much as I had expected. It was good but not nearly as good as I had hoped/expected/thought.

Mass Effect, I just didn't think it worked too well.
This. What was it you didn't like about it? To me it was just too overwhelming, like they'd throw you into a massive city with little or no directions.

I didn't really like the combat, the story didn't exactly appeal to me either.

Fable 2 did surprise me, I didn't hate it but it had NOTHING on Fable 1
Also honorary mention goes to Half Life 2, again I didn't hate it but it was less then the prodical son of games that everyone made it out to be.
I was surprised by my hatred of Turok though as I like dinosaurs. But no there was just too much to compain about.
Turok Evolution is much better for the original xbox, and it works on 360 too.
If you like dinosaurs and hate turok for 360 (like i did) i suggest you get it. :D

Deus Ex. I didn't expect an FPS/RPG to be fantastically good in the gameplay department, but Deus Ex's combat was abysmal.

Few things are more stupid than suddenly having your screen covered in black clouds while your camera zooms in to about five times its normal focus, all the while causing you to lose health precipitously until it hits zero, just because some punk from five hundred meters away sees you and fires his tiny little wrist-mounted pen-launching crossbow at you with bullshit accuracy.

Mm yeah the combat was a flaw too. It was way too finicky with aiming.
