What science fiction universe would you want to live in? What would you do if you had to live in that universe for the rest of your life?

I'd say either the MCU or Star Wars. The MCU always has enough things happening that a lawful evil guy like me would have work to be done as either a member of Department H or as an agent of Sword or a revived Shield (there's 14 more years at the least before the MCU ends, it's going to happen).

For Star Wars, my knowledge of gunpowder is good enough that I'd be able to build some simple weapons which, when compared to what they use, are less powerful but also invincible (a lightsaber will not deflect a bullet, it's just make it molten). Couple that with the tech they have there, at the least I'd be a successful bounty hunter, and I could go so far as to take over a planet or two.

I wouldn't mind Brave New World, provided I get to be an alpha citizen or whatever they were called.

None. To me the point of good sci-fi is that it is indistinguishable from our world in the future. So if anything, I'd like to live far enough in the future to have a much better life. =)

The future society in Hamilton's Darklight trilogy feels both plausible and reasonably good for all it's citizens.

The Culture universe, it's a utopia where the average human lives for 300 years and has the chance to do pretty much anything in the universe they want. I wouldn't even think of picking somewhere else.

Star Trek, hands down. Humanity's solved pretty much all its problems (no war, no inequality, no money, seemingly infinite energy...), but the focus on adventure offered by Starfleet means there's still some danger and excitement. Plus y'know, exploring the universe in all its awesomeness.

Exactly this. I'd kill people to live in the Star Trek: TNG universe. Which ironically would make me an ill fit for that ear of human (future) history.

Tossup between Ghost in the Shell, and Star Trek TNG.

Ghost in the Shell's cybernetics let me transcend a mere mortal body and possibly attain a level of immortality. I'd require less food, and drink, being less of a burden on the planet.
The world isn't perfect, but it's certainly interesting. Hopefully 'd be lucky enough to get a full conversion.

TNG? Money's largely abolished, humanity's leagues better than it is now, and there's space, holodecks, and medicine advanced enough to push human lifespans past 100 regularly. And cybernetics, though prolly morally restricted, and stuff.
I could prolly retire in a nice Danube class ship from what ever the heck I was doing, and turn it into a winnebago with wings. :p

The Star Trek universe seems like both a civil and interesting era to live in. Mass Effect would be similar if it weren't for the dang Reapers.

Star Wars would be cool for the more adventurous types.

The Honor Harrington universe, if only to be contrarian against the Star Trekers fluffing about.

Prolong, (a medical procedure that stops the aging process at a certain point for a century or three) available to first world system citizens for free combined with a rather quieter galactic neighborhood make it an nice and more importantly safe place to live.

Ye, this should be everyone's answer really. There's no real reason I could see a sane person choose another universe.

You might find other universes more interesting to read about. But there's a difference between enjoyable fiction and good living standards. The culture is pretty much the ideal.
Pretty much. There are lots of cool sci-fi universes, like the Galaxy Far, Far Away and the Mass Effect setting, but I can't honestly say I'd like to live in them. The Culture, on the other hand, was basically designed from the ground up to be the most wonderful place to live you could imagine.

No disease, no resource scarcity, no need for money, casual interstellar travel, super-intelligent AIs which do all the heavy lifting for you... and yes, orgasms which last for minutes at a time. What's not to like?

Either Stargate, where you can travel between planet in minutes or the Next Generation era of Star Trek where disease, hunger, and greed are gone and its all abound exploring.
