Pokemon Platinum.

The terrible things the daycare couple do to make your pokemon produce an egg. Not to mention Ditto.

Bioshock is the one game that I could honestly that is "dark." Condemned had more of a "Silence of the lambs" kinda feel, which isn't dark in the matter I think of dark. And silent hill is just beyond words.

I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream.

The title alone comes off as dark. Point and click adventure where humanity is extinct and the only 5 survivors are kept alive by a super computer for its sick amusement. Deals with insanity, selfishness, rape, racism, paranoia, and genocide (am I winning?). More info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Have_No_Mouth,_and_I_Must_Scream_%28video_game%29
I did once try to play that game but could never get a properly working version. Wasnt it origionally a book or something though? I read the synopsis of the story a while back when I was looking for games like that (Shortly after the first trilby game was released)
Same author also worked on the game to so the concepts keep very muh in line with the story. As for versions, I played the old Mac disc version that I only think you can get from the man himself via official website.

Wow STALKER has come up a lot. Looking like I might have to go back to that one. Just pointing out again that I kind of ment dark as in twisted.

can't believe no one mentioned eternal darkness
Yea that game was strange in sections

Also the darkness that people had mentioned. That actually did have some very dark parts when you went to hell. But im guessing most of you didnt mean that?

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl, but with the L.U.R.K. Mod installed that made actual light and sound recognition for the enemies (stealth) and extremely dark nights. You know the feeling of normally dark games where you feel scared of the environment, like Bioshock? Well, with L.U.R.K. it feels like you're the dark threat.

Actually, probably an online text-based MUD. I can't remember which of them was the really dark world, but that doesn't really matter, because a huge amount of the content is user created, so everyone invents these really twisted histories and storylines for themselves. One of the characters I knew in the game had apparently been trapped in a tower by an evil villain for decades and held captive as a sex slave, leaving her traumatised and half-insane. oO It's twistedly awesome. =D

As far as pre-written games, it's hard for me to judge. The darker a game is, the more I tend to enjoy it, so I don't even usually notice, but, well, for games that are ostensibly kid-friendly, MediEvil and the Oddworld games are both loaded with dark humour, which is probably why I love them so much. =3

Seriously, the fact that they stitched the eyes and lips of mudokons shut, and intended to market them as a food product probably qualifies them as being pretty dark. Plus, the morbid humour still makes me laugh my ass off. "Our spew is your brew!"

Concept wise i'm going to say Max Payne. You come home to find your wife and child murdered, and I played it in like the 6th grade when I hadn't really dealt too much with concepts like that. I agree with the guy that said the "Carlos incident" in Saints Row as well. I've never actually played a Silent Hill game, I should pick one of those up sometime.

What platform is "Alice" on? I've never heard of that game.

Bioshock, no matter what anyone says. That game was daarrk.

Also, Metroid Prime 2 Echoes was quite dark compared to its brothers.
hehe really? All that Bioshock left for me was a bad taste in my mouth... the taste of Ricola coughdrops as it were... since i was sick as i played through the game. Could have lessened the mood slightly.

CoD:WaW had a kind of dark story, compared to the others in the series.

Darkest lighting goes to Turok. And that's not a good thing when you're trying to fight through a pitch black cave maze full of raptors.
