What is the Darkest Game you've played?

I'd say...
World of Warcraft. I went on a PvP server first time I played it.
And know what? That scared me. Outright bloody scared me.
I now happily play on an RP realm, far away from those lunatics.

I leveled one to eighty in a PvP realm called Darkspear, I never left it.

You don't know..how much..I went through.

I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream.

The title alone comes off as dark. Point and click adventure where humanity is extinct and the only 5 survivors are kept alive by a super computer for its sick amusement. The first STALKER was a real downer to because it was a lot more believable than Fallout (despite some paranormal elements).

Funny you should mention I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream. I just found out about that game over at GamesRadar a few hours ago.

Flower.. Seriously.

Flower almost made me cry. It was a pretty scary game at one point.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask. Not on the surface of course. You have to think about it, let it really sink in. Which, to me, is the best kind.

Probably Bioshock, but that may be because I have never played half of the games people are mentioning.

I think I will have to look into Alice though. People seem to be all over that one.

BioShock. I really wanted to like that game but one thing kept me from having a great time, I could never tell what the fuck I was looking at. Put some damn light in the game!

The Darkness was extremely downbeat and depressing at points.

It was almost too nihilistic and sad to play for long bouts.

Dang, beat me to it.

I was sick with a nasty flu when I first sat down to play it. So imagine the reality altering fevered mental state of someone sick with a nasty flu sitting down to play a game so grim and hellish at points that sane-healthy people would still shriek and cuddle their pink fuzzies. Took me a week to beat it. Took me a week to get over that flu too. Best damn flu ever.

Fallout. The cheeriness of the 60's aesthetic that came before only serves to highlight how soul crushingly futile it all is.

60's? I thought it was the 50's.

The Darkness is most definitely up there for darkest games. I really had no idea was I walking into once I popped in the game. One of the very few games I actually had to put down and contemplate how downtrodden and bleak the game is. It's like the comic book, except all the tongue-in-cheek humor was gutted and thrown in the bin. Not a bad thing, especially since the atmosphere of the game was incredibly effective.

Bioshock is another title that is very dark. The tragedy inherent in the scenery is quite overwhelming. Same goes with Fallout 3.
