In relation to the Dark Knight though, it was a really well put together film and it doesn't seem to have any plot holes or other issues.

It is probably one of the most overrated films of all time with Inception following suit, that said they are both truely brilliant films. Dark Knight is brillaintly shot in IMAX with a great cast and perfromances alround. People absolutely correct in saying that Heath is the best joker ever, far darker and sinister than the ridiculous and camp comic tomfoolery. The sound direction is brilliant as well with the ambient noise building up the tension when ever the joker is threatening someone of screen. Plus the best opening scene maybe of all time.
So you htink it's totally awesome and has the best opening of all time... and yet it's one of the most overrated films ever? In what universe does that make any sense? 0_o
It's good, but it's not the best film of all time. I remember when it came out it shot to the top of the IMDB top 250 list. Makes sense really as the list is mostly made of older independent and foreign film, and then sudenly there's a multimillion dollar blockbuster at the cinema about a comic book hero but which is original and character driven and doesn't only focus on the spectacle. A lot people were going to think that it's the best film ever, they're wrong though as they probably haven't Goodfather or Apocalypse Now.

Plus to be honest I preffer Ironman as a superhero (not nessecarily as a film), because they're both billionaire playboys with high tech supersuits but Ironman has FUN, and batman spends all of his free time brooding in his cave.

I was 14 when it came out, and I still love it. Heath Ledger's Joker is one of my favorite characters of all time. I don't understand how you couldn't like that movie.

I was 14 when I say it and god damn its the best movie ever made, hands down! I dont know if you guys are fans of Spill.com, but listen to the CoHost 3000's review of The Dark Knight, no ones summed up how amazing that movie is better than him

What's the deal with threads that start with what's the deal?

I dunno, I didn't find the Dark Knight all that special either. Probably because I never was into Batman.

Nothing makes me feel older than a thread where people reveal their age.

Fortunately most of you are awesome and it's a nice contrast to see compared to the Justin Bieber, Twilight Saga, Lady Gaga teenagers that the media presents me with.

EDIT: on a related note, I don't think The Dark Knight is perfect. There are too many plot holes and odd character actions for it to qualify as 'perfect'. Also I hated the effects on Two Face, that nearly ruined the movie for me. It is possibly the best comic book movie ever made though, and the fact that it's taken seriously by the general public is a huge deal.

I know I'll need to give examples of 'plot holes' and 'odd character actions' so here goes. Why exactly does Batman need to take the blame for Harvey's actions? He's dead. He'd be no more a symbol for the city to rally behind than Batman would. How is the Joker able to orchestrate all this with nobody to help him except for unreliable nut-cases? Why didn't they use the awesome Scarecrow more? What was the point of Rachel Dawes even existing? If Batman needs to disguise his voice, why doesn't he use a $5 voicebox rather than damage his vocal chords with a ridiculous growl?

Heath Ledger's death had nothing to do with the movie's merits, and his own merits, he would've received best Actor regardless. I can honestly watch the movie 2 times back to back and not notice a single flaw or dull moment. How many movies can you say that about?

Personally I think Watchmen was a better super hero movie, well technically I suppose they are both not really super hero movies as there is nothing super about them... and the hero part is rather questionable... batman is rather interesting as a character though, just as messed up as the people he fights, strange one track mind rather obsessive compulsive personality, only a few steps above the criminals he catches.

Come on, be serious; the most boring hero ever created is Superman. Almost invincible, god-like powers, unrelenting moral code...This is what makes the Batman/Superman dynamic so interesting - one is all-powerful but totally on the straight-and-narrow, the other is only human but willing to break the rules to see justice done. The yin and yang of superheroism.
I agree superman is boooooring. I have different problems with batman. Batman, multimillionaire, Bourgeois, elite of society, comes down from his ivory tower to slum it and beat up then imprison the poor, the mentally ill, the disabled and a selection of ethnic minorities. None of whom ever really stand a chance. Does no one else see a problem with this picture? It's like Ayn Rand's wet dream.

The law doesn't apply to Batman (it did however in the interesting 2000AD crossover). In Gotham he is the most intelligent, influential, richest, athletic... All because he was born wealthy I presume? I could go on. I've noticed he doesn't get involved in white collar crime. Corperations abusing their power, wielding undue influence, stripping assets, sinking pension funds, all of these things his friends probably do to make lives miserable. He'd put foot to ass though if I snatched a purse to feed my family... over $25.

Now the punisher, I get. He's a traumatised Nam vet who should have gone for counselling but instead goes on a one man rampage.

So you didn't like the movie because you have a short attention span? .[/quote said:
Look, I don't normally reply to jibes like that, but this time I will.

I thought the Dark Knight was too long, not because I have a short attention span, but because moviemaking should be an art.

It should tell the story in an engaging manner, without too much self-indulgence.

To me, and I do realise that this is a subjective opinion, the movie was TOO LONG. It did not have the depth of content to justify the length of the movie. In this, it was self-indulgent. It was like the director was having too much fun watching the antics of the villans and the gadgets and the explosions, to realise that the story was over-long, over-stretched and overly convoluted.

That's just my opinion though. I'm glad that there are many people who did enjoy the movie. In fact, I am sad I didn't do the same...

Other than the stupid bat-voice it's a fantastically "Straight Up" approach to the Super Hero Movie that envisions it more as a hard nosed crime thriller/action movie than as a 4-color comic book film that still manages to be a super hero film about people who dress in crazy costumes, which is different and exciting.

Not going to say you AREN'T entitled to your opinion though but I must ask, what would you have preferred/what would you prefer? If you don't like movies like Heat, Collateral, Public Enemies, Millers Crossing, No Country For Old Men etc. then I can definitely see why you don't like The Dark Knight, just keep in mind that LOTS of people like those movies AND The Dark Knight and don't be surprised if they disagree with you.

Why do people think that movie is so good? I don't understand. I thought it was long, boring, anti-climatic, and I couldn't understand anyone. Maybe I'm just a 90 year old trapped in a 16 year old's body (I was fifteen when I saw it) but I don't see what all the rage is about in that movie.

ALSO I know I'm like 2 years late or whatever, but this was brought up by a thread about batman 3 and how DiCaprio would play the riddler and this one guy was saying how it could be like Heath Ledger as the Joker or something.
What are some of your favorite movies? That would make it easier to understand why you didn't like it.

You don't see why the movie is so popular. That's your problem.

I don't think the movie is as good as most people say it is, but I'm not completely baffled by that.
Mr. Hubilub, why is there a pineapple in your avatar?

OT: I liked it, saw it when I was 19, I think.
