A key problem Square-Enix has obviously been trying to deal with is that games have supposedly become too 'advanced' to allow Turn-Based battles due to them being 'unrealistic'.
FFX's system suited me just fine, and though I never played the sequel I heard it shoehorned ATB into it pretty well. One thing I've always wanted to see in an ATB system is for different attacks to consume different amounts of the ATB bar depending on their power. Better yet, some kind of passive defense that only stays active when your ATB bar is half-full or better. This way players are not compelled to attack the moment their bar is ready, but instead watch the timing of enemy attacks with their own. Also, either up the battle clockspeed a notch or allow multiple attack animations to play at once (unless they're Summons).
This was done in X-2, although it didn't have passive defense.

I see the commotion about the androgynous male lead. Look at the bright side in XIII: in addition to looking like a girl, the main character actually is one.

I think FF4 for the DS was amazing. Though, the only other ff's i've played are FF10 and FF11.

Which I love FFXI, though, most people would feel otherwise.. and this is strange to me. And I wonder why they don't like it.

A cross between FF5 and FFX-2?

The combo battle system (ffx-2) with a better balanced and worked out class system (ff5). Add in the character types from ff5 as well, a slightly cartoony lot who actually live in the worlds they're fighting in. And a mostly medieval western setting too please.

Story? Heck, this is FF, it's always a giant bucket of baloney. Just give me some guy who wants to destroy the world or something. ExExExDeath...

Basically FF5 with FFX-2's combat system.

The dream Final Fantasy is the one called The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Joking aside, of course, I feel that there is no "dream" Final Fantasy. If you love one game for certain aspects, that's what makes it stand out. Combining the best features of different games doesn't mean it's going to make it the best game ever.

@ Onmi: Dude, calm down. You don't need to tear the heads off of everyone with an opinion. Just because someone confuses a male character for female, or vice-versa, doesn't make them a "sick Yaoi-freak".

Honestly, it'd be a dream to have The Final Fantasy, that ties together all the beloved characters and worlds from all the Final Fantasies for one final epic battle (like Dissidia, but with a massive storyline). Kinda like Chrono Trigger where you have to go to different times to collect companions.

Changes in characters as he story goes on. LIke in IX where the princess cut her hair or Amarant changed his victory pose to sitting in the lotus position. It would be good to see that a character has changed by their movement and look rather than just dialogue.
hmm, strange how you havent mentioned cecils change from dark knight to paladin...

I have only played ff4, and can i say... What a game. I loved it. The story flowed, and unlike other comments, you could find yourself attached to the characters, and feel sorry when they die.

A game has to connect with the player to get my respect, and have a plot twist worthy of the name twist.

cheers

Found this thread through some serious link hopping and just had to register so I could post.

Darkness of FF2
Importance of summons in the storyline of FFIX and FFX
Character development of FF4
World of FFX, racial conflicts, religious importance,
Chocobos of FFIX and FF7
Moogles.
Class development possibly like in FF1, but with some choice but not to the extent of ff5s job system, maybe more of a restricted job system. I want to keep the individuality of the characters even in battle without robbing you from your freedom to specialize.
Female lead of FF6, with Zidane's personality.
Not sure of what I want betweens FF6s steampunk world, ff8s modern like world and ff9s medieval world(well I guess that could be also steampunk with all the airships)
Several worlds where you can walk around on a world map of FFIV and FFV
Card game of FFVIII
"Surprises" of FFVII
