Shao Kahn on Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks had me screaming at the top of my lungs.

And although it wasn't really a boss, "Cowboys from Hell" on the first Guitar Hero was pretty damn frustrating. Took me forever to beat it on Expert...

Not really a boss in the normal sense, but trying to capture a Ho-oh of the right nature in Pokemon Heart Gold. I don't want to use my master ball on it, saving that for Lugia instead, which is at level 70, so I'm stuck with dusk balls. The damn bird has a catch rate of 3, compared to Diamond's legendaries, which had catch rates of 70. Even on 1 hp, asleep, and using duck balls which give a *3 multiplier, it is still maybe a 5% chance that I will actually catch it. And then I have to check to see if it has the right nature, and if it doesn't, which is about 95% of the time, then I have to do the fight all over again.

The first guy in Human Revolution on the hardest difficulty when i had spent the duration of the game until that point in stealth.

Meta Ridley was pretty tough in metroid prime.
I found Meta Ridley really fun. The Omega Pirate, on the other hand...only time a boss has stopped me that hard.
Oh god, I love those Boss fights! I loved all of the Metroid Prime series bosses.

PERSONA 4
Izanami is a pushover compared to the overwhelming power of the hardest boss, Margaret. Her boss fight is so hard its almost impossible unless you're super leveled and have all the best personas with the right moves.

But harder than her is Elizabeth from Persona 3, at least you get your party to help in 4 but in 3 it's one on one. Also you can't use any personas that null, repel or absorb any element or attack she uses and if you break these rules she just outright kills you. It's pretty much impossible unless your lvl 99 and you have certain personas.

You ignored my proviso. I will not count annoying and tedious boss fights. I've read about those two and all I can say is NOT INTERESTED.

Well I wouldn't say they're tedious, they definitely keep you engaged and on your toes, but to each his own I guess.

I've seen so many people citing Seymour from FF X. Really? I mean, FF X has got freakin' Penance and your complaining about Seymour?

Anyway, my vote goes to the Demi-Fiend from Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga. People who have played it will know: even at lv. 99 with maxed out stats, this "familiar face" can still kick your ass without breaking a sweat.
Not going to get any harder than that. I don't think there even is a boss that's tougher than him in any non-buggy game.

I'll say Mundus from DMC. First he pulls the most abrupt gameplay change I've ever seen out of his arse then he spams his attacks like the cheating prick he is.

Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts was a real ***** but beating him felt really satisfying. Same story with Omega Weapon in Final Fantasy X. That's all I've got really other than the later bosses in Ninja Gaiden (NES)

I was playing FF7. It was an optional boss that you could try and fight if you wanted to. Omega or something I think..... couldn't kill him

Boost Guardian from Metroid Prime 2. Unless you are incredibly lucky, you will be stuck on him for the longest time. Easily one of, if not the hardest motherfucking bosses I've ever beaten, and It is the one thing that makes me not want to play that game ever again.

not sure on hardest but most memorable are the even footing fight in DMC series. Nelo Angelo(DMC1), Bolverk(DMC2), Argosax: The Despair Embodied(DMC2), Vergil(DMC3), Dante(DMC4) and Credo(DMC4). i just like boss fights were both the player and the boss are on equal footing.

also the music is awesome.

Only one that springs to mind is Rayquaza in Pokemon Rescue team Blue. I was severely underleveled and it was one of the few times in a video game where I was very proud of doing something.

I found the X-virus in the 1st megaman battle network the hardest one i ever defeated. He's not to strong, but as a kid I was completely euforic when i finally beat him down.

Final boss of devil may cry 3 (vergil 3) on highest difficulty. On the original version mind you, not the special edition. That one is way easier.

Because of his redonculous health it takes roughly 2 hours and if you make one false twitch move you're done for. Think about that for a minute. Not a single error for 2 straight hours... Every time I failed I had to give up for the day because I was simply too exhausted.
And than there's the hours and hours of farming bosses on easy so you can pay for all the items you need.
I managed to pull it off with a perfect Royal Guard run, yeah DMC3 original is stupidly hard. i remember being stuck on Cerberus for a week.

That old arcade gem, Black Tiger, AKA Black Dragon. It has these dragons that you have to fight, and I can't get past the 5th dragon, no matter how many times I play through. Damn some of those old arcade games were difficult, money-eating nightmares... even with unlimited credits I can't do it.

The very last boss in Alundra on the PSX is pretty damn tricky as well, that whole game is tricky, but still brilliant.

That big fat thing in Binding of Isaac is a bit of a nightmare as well, it just sits there while it's minions fire at you, occasionally firing - it's the sheer length of time it takes to kill, and the regenerating minions that make it difficult.

On console games though, I don't really have any memories of trully difficult boss kills, maybe I need to get myself Dark Souls or something really challenging like that. My character in Skyrim is so epic that nobody really puts up much of a fight, hehe, I remember I used to fear the dragons, giants and Deidra dudes. I guess the bears in Red Dead Redemption can be a challenge, sometimes at least, when your not expecting them.
