Ikaruga. I love that game sooo much though.
I'd normally say Ikaruga, but I'll get flamed by all the players who
think it's easy because they finished the game once. I suppose
Ikaruga is difficult to do -well- at on normal/hard difficulties
(easy you can just gun your way through.) Normally, I aim for at
least an A rank on most levels, and things like A++ on level 1 and 2,
and maybe I can push that gap to S one day, but yeah.
To complete it is not incredibly difficult, but to master it is ridiculous. And I think you should be able to complete it on normal with one credit until you can say it's easy, and that's difficult to do with consistency for most players.
Contra Hard Corps for my Genesis was also insanely difficult. I don't remember ever beating it but I sucked at games back then. I went back like a year later and got to level 5 or something, where all the monkeys come out at you at the start, and I died there. Maybe I could do better today.
Battletoads was hard because of the climbing levels, but everyone I
know gave up at the bike level. It involves more memorization that anything else.
Stepmania has varying difficulty. Guitar hero has varying difficulty.
Any game can be hard depending on what your own personal goals are. But to simply complete? I'm thinking, and I'm thinking....
"The Amazing Spider Man" for PC. It was the first game my brother ever got. And it was so terrible.
EDIT:
DISREGARD ALL OF THIS
SUPAPLEX
It came out circa 1991? 1990?
Completing every level was almost impossible.
