It'd be a toss-up between Shinobi, Devil May Cry 3, Stuntman or God Hand. All on the PS2.

im new to gaming so I'd have to say either jak and daxter (when it came out) or pokemon red at the age of 7-8 i believe...the ONLY pokemon game i completed....
The original Jak & Daxter? I beat that 100%, including all 101 Power Cells in two days.

Mine is Civilization 2. I was about 10 when I started playing though...

I hated Oblivion on maximum difficulty, first rats kill you in 2 hits!

Bar none Majora's mask for nintendo 64 the hardest game EVER! I thought the newer Twilight princess would be harder but sadly no. I never could have completed Majora's mask without a walkthrough

Ikaruga. I love that game sooo much though.
I'd normally say Ikaruga, but I'll get flamed by all the players who
think it's easy because they finished the game once. I suppose
Ikaruga is difficult to do -well- at on normal/hard difficulties
(easy you can just gun your way through.) Normally, I aim for at
least an A rank on most levels, and things like A++ on level 1 and 2,
and maybe I can push that gap to S one day, but yeah.

To complete it is not incredibly difficult, but to master it is ridiculous. And I think you should be able to complete it on normal with one credit until you can say it's easy, and that's difficult to do with consistency for most players.

Contra Hard Corps for my Genesis was also insanely difficult. I don't remember ever beating it but I sucked at games back then. I went back like a year later and got to level 5 or something, where all the monkeys come out at you at the start, and I died there. Maybe I could do better today.

Battletoads was hard because of the climbing levels, but everyone I

know gave up at the bike level. It involves more memorization that anything else.

Stepmania has varying difficulty. Guitar hero has varying difficulty.
Any game can be hard depending on what your own personal goals are. But to simply complete? I'm thinking, and I'm thinking....

"The Amazing Spider Man" for PC. It was the first game my brother ever got. And it was so terrible.

EDIT:

DISREGARD ALL OF THIS
SUPAPLEX

It came out circa 1991? 1990?

Completing every level was almost impossible.

I don't know about the hardest game i've ever played or even the hardest boss, but...

How is that even fair???
So much particles and stuff in it that, that "the word clusterf*ck stops (don't know how to spell the other word) being adequate"

Xenosaga Episode1 hands down. I loved and hated that game.
MMmmm xenosaga. loved that game too. it wasn't the fact that it was too hard of an rpg for me tho. It was that i had to restart halfway in the game once i fully understood the level advance and battle system. CONFUSING!!!. Tired to finish the triolgy but the new kos mos voice and new confusing battle system again >__<

The original Ninja Gaiden was a *****. I learned new cuss words playing that. NG2 was also difficult, but not quite at the original's level, it was just cheep moves (exploding shiruken anyone) and bad camera angles. COD4 on Veteran definately gets an honorable mention, as does Mirror's Edge without using any guns.

I'll say the same thing I did last "Hardest Game" thread, and the one before.

The hardest game I've ever played is Commandos, a strategy game for the PC. I'm not sure I ever made it past level 8...Not even halfway through.

your all wrong, the hardest game ever is w.o.w just bc of pure time consumption. and the main boss illidan is the hardest boss, you need like 70 ppl to just have a chance

Ninja Gaiden for the X-box. When I had to fight the thing in pick the first time I did not have any health potions so it took me for ever. I did not have any potions to fill the special attack either.

Streets of Rage, those 2 women outside the final boss' room were evil to beat even on the easiest setting
Really? I don't recall this being hard. When did you last play it?
years ago, probably mid '90s, i was a bout 10 at the time and i remember them being really hard to beat. the game generally was OK it was just those 2 women at the end that i always had trouble with.

lol ghouls 1 or 2 hit killed me anyway !

What really pissed me off about the game was the combat. It was gritty and realistic but it seemed one sided. Where I died within say an average of 5 hits, it took multitudes of strikes to finalize an enemy. This gets particularly annoying when multiple enemies attack and u have to somehow figure out a rhythm. But then again we're the only people who can use the environment for attacks. but you're character just seems so weak, it's like your a mouse against a dog.

Life is the hardest game I've ever played. But it's so incredibly realistic and fun that I don't want to put it down.
