All beaten.. resulting in guaranteed arthritis in the thumbs.

I got my hands on a copy of FFVII and played it with an emulator...

I died in the first battle and then I found out "ooooh I have to WAIT before attacking to kill that guy??"

....

then I went and played Left 4 Dead 2. haven't gone back to continue "the greatest game of all time"

which is untrue anyway, imo, cuz I think Legend of Zelda: A link to the past is the greatest game ever.

Basically every Ninja Gaiden game. Recently I beat NG2 on Path of the Master Ninja difficulty and honestly, it was crazy hard. But I did it, have the achievement and I'll do it again.

I second "I Wanna Be the Guy".

Also.. Mass Effect 2 on Insanity is pretty hard.

You stole the words out of my mouth. Hardest platformer ever. Of all time. I gave up on it after I almost beat the first level. Too many retries... spirit broken. Never want to play again...

The Gauntlet in Dark Alliance maybe, although dragons in Baldur's Gate 2 were always a *****.

I Wanna Be The Guy is ridiculously difficult, yes. I'd rank it together with Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup and Nethack, completely different genre or not. And maybe some of the Touhou games on the highest difficulty (those FEEL easier, but that may just be because they're shorter).

Hardest, though? ADOM/Ancient Domains Of Mystery. Yes, it's a roguelike, much like Nethack and Stone Soup. Yes, it's also completely vicious. I finished all the games on this list, but for ADOM, I can honestly say that doing so wasn't worth it. Sanity damage and all.
