Just finished The Bear and the Dragon by Tom Clancy after a couple years of reading while traveling. It's 1000 pages of pure awesomeness, complete with Clancy's amazing combat writing. One of my favorite authors, and one of many good reads.

A Storm of Swords by George R. R. Martin. Going through the Song of Ice and Fire series. almost finished A Feast for Crows. It's awesome, all books in this series have been great so far.

Finished A Dance with Dragons like 2 weeks ago, I was a bit disappointed. I really don't like going a whole book with character's plots being untouched, Sansa and Brienne are completely untouched. Seriously the previous book ended with such a cliff hanger and the question is still left unanswered. Also a bit disappointed that some of the really interesting characters like Arya and Jamie get so little even though their plots are the most interesting. Really cool to see John Snow get more time, but once again another cliff hanger. I'm really not a fan of just having more and more tertiary characters thrown in while the characters from the first two books take a backseat. Martin had such a penchant for building up the main cast and then giving them an amazing swan song and now they've just been shelved away and he throws in some random schmuck out of no where and you're suddenly supposed to empathize with them and be surprised that they die...except for the fact that he keeps doing this over and over. Seriously it's like in Modern Warefare 1, you're floored when you get hit by a nuke...but when they bring it up in the other games...it's like oh...yea...that happened. It loses it's impact and you don't even bother caring about the character from the start because you know he or she is going to get obliterated before the book ends.

I think you might be the only one who likes A Feast for Crows, it's been panned pretty widely and is considered the weakest/worst of the books so far.

I've been reading Lovecraft for a while, to be able to use the mythos other than some hipster way. The stuff I've read, while short, is incredible dense. You narrative does not move fluidly at times. But man, that guy should could create atmosphere.

Neil Geiman's "M is for Magic". Finished it in a day. Quite nice collection of short stories. My favorite one is Sunbird, for no particular reason.

The last book I found decent enough to finish was A Clash of Kings, which I found awesome. And that was back in January, I'm currently reading through Storm of Swords: Steel and Snow, which I plan to finish, few books are good enough to keep me going through to the end, but the Song of Ice and Fire series has just been perfect so far

I just finished Hugo-award winning author Alfred Bester's "The Stars My Destination" and it was incredibly bizarre and fantastic and repulsive and wonderful.
The main character steals, cheats, blackmails, rapes, murders, tortures, and destroys with wild abandon. He's likened to a wild animal, but he's the most sympathetic character in the story. For all his horrible faults, the other characters are even worse. He is possessed of a brutal honesty, while the other characters hide behind lies and deceit.
I definitely recommend this book to any lovers of Sci-fi.

Gully Foyle is my name
And Terra is my nation.
Deep space is my dwelling place,
The stars my destination.

"Deathless" by Cat Valente. It's an amazing retelling of Koschei the Deathless from Russian folk tales. The main character Marya is very compelling and interesting, and Koschei departs from his usual "old ugly villain" role to be someone complex and sympathetic. It even dips a little into non-vanilla sexuality, and the power dynamic between the two main characters is so fun and interesting to read about as it swings back and forth.

I highly recommend it to anyone who is comfortable with the sexual themes in the book. (Mostly BDSM-oriented, though this is nowhere near in the same 'porn/erotical' category as things like 50 Shades. Trust me, it's way more tasteful, significant, and not as huge a part of the plot.)

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. Honestly its some of the best writing I've seen in a long time and it manages to tackle difficult issues. Plus the man wrote Looking for Alaska so it was going to be good from the start.

Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood. I found it to be a fantastic book and now I really want to read its kinda-sequel, Year of the Flood.

It's pretty depressing, I spent most of the book just sad about the protagonist and the way everything turns out but there are still some moments that made me chuckle.

In exactly the same position, only I'm about a third way through AFfC. Storm of Swords has easily been my favorite so far, although all the books are great. Hopefully Martin will finish the series before the show catches up lol.

I just had my mind torn to pieces by The Doors of Perceptions and Heaven & Hell by Aldous Huxley.

Yeah...that one took determination but worth it if you find understanding the universe of the mind a little more neccessary for your day-to-day life.

A Dance with Dragons, watching G.R.R.Martin butcher the last few characters I cared about :(
On the bright side, I enjoyed the continued Rincewind cameo and got to give kudos to Martin for actually creating a character more hateable than Jeoffrey.

Artemis Fowl and The Lost Colony, by Eoin Colfer. Simply brilliant, I've read all the earlier Artemis Fowls and I simply just love the way he writes. There's something so compelling in these seemingly "childish" books of "juvenile" fantasy. Magic, gadgets, elves, trolls, a teen criminal mastermind... Just pure awesome.
You're in for one doozie of a scene in the next book then :)

Can't wait ^^ I've already ordered it to my local bookstore so just counting days for it to arrive. The story has quite effectively sucked me in!

Well, not really counting days... Awaiting patiently to have a nice and relaxing bit of fine reading!

The Book of Atrus.

Not an excellent book in terms of writing style, but it serves as a wonderful view into the past of Atrus, Gehn and the D'ni civilization.
