I just finished Hugo-award winning author Alfred Bester's "The Stars My Destination" and it was incredibly bizarre and fantastic and repulsive and wonderful.
The main character steals, cheats, blackmails, rapes, murders, tortures, and destroys with wild abandon. He's likened to a wild animal, but he's the most sympathetic character in the story. For all his horrible faults, the other characters are even worse. He is possessed of a brutal honesty, while the other characters hide behind lies and deceit.
I definitely recommend this book to any lovers of Sci-fi.
Gully Foyle is my name
And Terra is my nation.
Deep space is my dwelling place,
The stars my destination.
