yes, that may be true, but it is hard to see that your weapon was sticking halfway into a rock when it zooms into the enemy. other times it came as a complete surprise (As the enemy was under some unregistered cover) and it hit that instead of the enemy. overall, that vats system does pretty good. But there are some serious issues that need to be worked out in the game.(I felt like I was playing a beta the entire time through.)
either way, this isn't the purpose of the post.
In my own humble opinion I would say, Halo CE's pistol definitely needed some loving attention by the nerfing stick, but in 2 and 3 were hit so hard that they went into the realms of useless.
also, in most fps games, the moment you get the next in the natural progression (Think doom1/2) the previous weapon ceases to be even remotely useful.

The worst gun IMO is the glock 18 in Rainbox 6 Vegas...It is so weak and after 5 secs of firing I run out of ammo :p And another is WITHOUT hardcore the springfield in CoD 5...Even with stopping power a evenly aimed shot at the chest still doesnt kill someone :p

Wasn't there a bug in Rainbow Six where grenades would stick to your hand when thrown?

Eh, you're still in first person when you enter VATS, so it's still on you. I've not had the bullets magically stop in thin air before, though I've had enemies go behind cover and make my attacks useless.

As I said, the Halo 1 pistol was morphed in the Battle Rifle, and slightly nerfed, making it from a three headshots to a kill to a four headshots to a kill. The pistol was turned more into a gun to be dual wielded, typically with a plasma pistol, to fire a charged shot to disable their shields, then a pop a few rounds at them to get them in the head.

In vegas two it works a lot better, and has a bigger mag.

Theres only a few guns in Fallout 3 worth using IMO, that being the Chinese Assault Rifle, Combat Shotgun, Sniper Rifle, A3-21's Plasma Rifle, and in a pinch the 10mm submachine gun. I haven't made the Rock-It Launcher yet so i can't tell you too much about that either. as for everything else though, it was pointless and i even focused on the small guns trait, and even a bit more than I would of liked too in energy weapons.

I wouldn't say the others are broken so much as... well not so good. You don't really encounter the above mentioned weapons (Save for the shotty and the submachine gun) till about half way through the story plot, and if you were like me and did several side quests near the beginning when you could, that could be a long time.

And yet, the glock is one of the most accurate pistols if you put it on single shot. Full auto is for pansies.

Yeah, putting points into big guns or energy weapons makes the beginning of the game a lot harder for players, but my understanding is that pays off well. I've always started off wth small guns and kept using them until I got A3-21's plasma rifle and a collection of MFC's, then I would start putting points into E.Weapons.

Depending on your definition of "broken" the Voss (BF2142) would have to win hands down. I mean, why use something like a sniper rifle when you could use the perso-err.. "Gunification" of death itself? The sodding thing had a massive clip, next to no damage drop off, could be used with PK rockets (a close second) and a defibrillator, and had a ludcrisly small cone of fire even when going full auto while running about the place like a 5 year old on speed and Pixie Stix.

In the non gun division the award goes to anything that could fly in BF2.

Broken meaning "overpowered"? That would be the pump shotgun in Counter Strike Source before a patch released a few years ago.(I've had a single pellet from a random shot hit my head, killing me) now it's a bit more balanced, requiring two or three pellets to hit a head before it counts as a headshot.

Broken meaning "worthless"? Fist/Glove weapons in Aria of Sorrow. When you're able to get one of these weapons, you're also very close to finding Final Sword, which hits multiple times and is much stronger.(strongest fist weapon has +60 atk, Final Sword has +108)

The most broken gun seems to be the Steyer Aug in any game I've seen it featured in. It always seems to be a source of a great deal of resentment on any side.

Also, the pistols in the first few ghost recon games. Not only were the levels designed to make a pistol no better than trying to punch your opponent, it tended to take a half dozen shots or more to kill someone (when a single rifle round tended to drop a player most of the time, even if it was to the leg).

pretty much EVERY gun that I've encountered thus far in Fallout 3. If you can dump a clip of ammo into someone's chest and they can still fight, that's one helluvan underpowered weapon. Even moreso if you're dumping ammo into someone's HEAD.
Or when you go to use VATS and it tells you that there's a 95% chance to hit something but you end up firing into a wall.
5% of succeeding is a small amount.
5% of failing is enormous.
Percentages are funny like that.

I've not come across broken weapons in my games, I must be lucky.

I just put my skill points in the small guns first then choose some other skills to use.
Although I do admit with a Small gun skill of 100 then pistols are completely horrible still. They are only good against the occasional enemy that you can take out with little effort or if you want to not waste as much ammo against those radroaches. I still like to use my basic hunting rifle though. The Lincoln's Repeater I just hate for some reason even though it does more damage I still can't bring myself to use it because it just seems to be a waste of ammunition. I only have 8 shots for the Repeater while my hunting rifle has somewhere around 200 bullets in reserve.

I put all my points into energy weapons on my first playthrough and got absolutely raped by the game until after the main quest when the enclave start showing up. There was nothing to be found but my crappy laser pistol which was about as useful as a laser pen.

You'll want ol' painless my friend... special hunting rifle found in the republic of dave with increased damage, and it uses normal hunting rifle ammo so you'll never run out as every super mutant in the wastes carries it!

Funnily enough I find the hunting rifles to be the most satisfying weapons to use in the game. They have a good balance of damage and accuracy and make a lovely loud BANG!!!

Pssh, clearly NONE of you were playing Battlefield 2 when Patch 1.31 came out. the unloackable support gun the PKM became a rapid-fire, 100 clip sized sniper rifle. Before this patch, in a 64 sized full server the might be 3 support players, after the patch... almost 50. The next patch, they fixed it a little bit, but it hardly made a difference.
I was there, L9A61 in hand, sniping the support whores. The PKM may be good, but it's no match for a scope and a steady hand.

I'm quite fond of the laser pistol. it gets like nine shots per vats, and Col. Autumn's a beast, as is the special "Smugglers end" or the "Protectron's Gaze".
