But it wasn't used as anything other than Fanservice...
That's all it was there for.
And the bulk of it happened at really inappropriate times, ruining the mood and meaning the previous event might of had.
I'd think that at least parts of it could be explained as an artistic choice underlining the fragility and vulnerability of the characters.

Not that the substantial majority of it wasn't unnecessary and part of at times creepy and fetishistic fanservice, but the nudity in itself wasn't completely without any other relevance in all scenes.
Yea i do agree that some of the nudity was used well.
Like what moretimethansense posted, Lucy was chained up, naked and bloody after being recaptured(I think? its bee a while) and that did show how her captors viewed her as something lower than a human.
If the series had more like that, it would have been MUCH better, still not that great but better imo.

OT: Probably lots of bizarre fetishistic Hentai I wouldn't know of.

For more ordinary anime which could potentially fit "weird and creepy", Bludgeon Angel Dokuro-Chan, Umineko no Naku Koro ni (not to be confused with its excellent predecessor [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Higurashi-no-Naku-Koro-ni]), Gunslinger Girl (at least the overall idea, the execution is fairly harmless and the first season quite watchable [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/anime/6795-Anime-Review-Gunslinger-Girl]), and what's out of the second season of To aru Majutsu no Index so far. Not all of them are without merit, but they certainly have downsides of "weird & creepy" to them.
I completely agree with Gunslinger Girl.
I watched a bit of it and loved it, but some parts were just creepy.
Like one of the younger girls asking the older Blond girl how a period feels, because she cant have one.

OT:Speed Grapher is also a pretty messed up anime.
But strangely it is enjoyable, it might be the fact that the mc can make people explode from taking their picture.
But its got plenty of bizarre fetish and just plain old creepy stuff to make you go wat.

EDIT:btw i like your new avatar, i really need to watch Gankutsuou.

Queen's Blade; Only girls, often with exposed upper bodies. Makes no sense, but lots of boobs. Where are the guys when they're needed?

Elfen Lied, why because it trys to pretend its this serious drama while giving people a sense of deepness too it.

Case and point first episode

Im not even going to attack the first seen with the naked murder going on.

You get naked mew on the beach, why mew? because thats the sound she makes, also its the sound a cat is supposed to make in japan *Mew = Meow, its an onomatopoeia type word* why does mental retardation do this to her I don't know. The writer thought to himself "hmm how can I pass this character off as innocent" and within one minute of getting clothes and getting off the beach, she looks down out her shirt curiously showing us a tit. It tries to hide its perversion and that to me makes it more perverted.

Well we're going to have to agree to disagree on this one, especially claiming that all the nudity was for fanseveice, frankly if this:

Is your idea of fanservice I fear for your mental state, and frakly any girl you intend to sleep with.
Actually to some people that is fanservice, because guess what, some people like Gore and Nudity mixed.
Personally i don't think that was as it had some context, and i was more specifically referring to the first episode while i was saying that "That's all it was there for", as was the person i quoted was talking about the first episode as well.

But seriously , the MC and his cousin having a decent conversation, setting a good mood all of the sudden broken by Mentally Damaged Lucy(if i remember correctly) falling on the floor and pissing herself?
That was fan service plain and simple.
And the series contains a LOT more.
Oh I'm aware what people can get off to, but that;'s hardly their target audience
I actually thought that was part of their target audience, for the shier amount it had and how unnecessary most of it was.
As for the collapsing on the floor and pissing herself I'd argue that it was used to show how helpless she had become, and how she had no concept of what's appropriate or social mores.
I can see where you are coming from, but it felt really out of place.
They had just set up a touching conversation and then BAM out of literally nowhere she comes in.
It just happened and ruined the moment that had just been set up.
And most nudity (though not all) is used to show how dehumanised they have become, just because some find it titillating does not change that they are obviously being treated as less than human by their captors as though they don't even deserve clothes the animals that they are.

@Gigaguy64 I know but I felt the need to correct him anyway, using incorrect data to support your argument is a pet peeve of mine.
Again i see your point, but most of the nudity was not used in that context.
Most of it was just there.
No context, no meaning, it was just there to be there and it really stuck out.

And really, i do think it could have been a good series, but there were many factors besides the gratuitous amounts of nudity that really hurt the show imo.
I'd say that just because the nudity is "just there" doesn't mean that it has no intent beyond nudity for the sake of it, Different people can interpret different things differently,
For instance the first few episodes of Shakugan no Shana rattled me to my very core and had me convinced the seires was an existetial horror, it was a romantic comedy with a fair amount of action, but what I read in to it left me with a feeling as though the the entire thing was the MC trying to ignore the futility of his (soon to be non-)existance.

In short I don't think we'll ever agree on this simply because we have different perspectives on the series.

I'd like to recomend the manga although it has many of the same "problems" as the Anime it does at least have a proper ending and helps add a bit of perspective,
maybe you won't like it but you can always try.

Yea, perspective can be a crazy thing.

I have heard about the Manga and iv been meaning to check it out.
I really did like the initial plot of the series but, there was just too many things that turned me off of it.
So who knows, maybe ill enjoy the Manga.

It could certainly stand to lose much of the fanservice aspect, while it wasn't a dealbreaker for me most of it was just too blatant, bizarre and/or slightly creepy to not bog the series down a notch. While never one to scorn the female form, I certainly can't see the appeal of putting something as (light) amputee or incest fanservice into an anime trying to appeal to a wide audience; 95 % of that audience, including myself, are of course likely to hold it against the anime (to various degrees) or at least gain absolutely nothing from watching it in an anime already short on running time.

I completely agree with Gunslinger Girl.

Yep, the overall premise is pretty fucked up, and there are a few uncomfortable whiffs like the one you mention, but thankfully there's absolutely nothing sexual to it (which would of course have been all kinds of wrong and an instant "never ever watch"-stamp), and the execution and artwork is otherwise pretty good. With its subject matter it walks a fine line - in my opinion far more so than Elfen Lied had to - that could easily have gone terribly wrong, but it actually manages to be pretty inoffensive and interesting.

well, it might not be on-par with some of the stuff other escapists have seen, but the one anime that was the most MESSED UP that I've ever seen has to be School Days. The face-to-panty shot ratio has to be somewhere around 1:1, and the story just goes into "THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU" territory :p The reason it's messed up is mostly because of how the 12 episode long series ends though...
the main character dude impregnates a girl, while cheating on her with literally the whole freakin' school. One of the girls he is cheating with, which actually was his first girlfriend, goes into a wierd crazy emotionally dead state. The impregnated girl kills the main character, first girlfriend discovers him dead, saws off his head, puts it in a duffle bag, kills the girl who's pregnant so that she won't have his kid, and is later seen on a sailboat hugging the main characters head, while talking to it... yeeeaah...
Fun fact: A high school girl killed her own dad in Japan the same week the last episode was supposed to be released on TV. They held off the release with a week to avoid the whole "too soon" thing. Instead, they put a 20 min episode with calming music, norwegian landscape and a boat. Thus, the "Nice Boat"-meme was born.
The way I understood it, the girl was actually lying about being pregnant. After all, after she is killed and "gutted" we get a shot of the killer girl from within the dead girl's womb, saying "As I thought. There's noone inside you."
Actually, I think that's a bit "decide for yourself". I mean, it isn't exactly anyone inside a pregnant girl during the first few weeks now is it? It is just a small cell-bundle. I think I actually saw a discussion on this topic somewhere, but I can't remember where. And also, let's not forget about Kotonoha's mindset during this, I hardly think she is the best judge on something like this after that emotional rollercoaster in the middle of the night, eh? :p
Yeah, I just don't think they would have shown that shot if she wasn't supposed to have been lying about it. But I digress, it isn't like it makes much of a difference.

I don't understand how that makes it bad, but Rosario + Vampire.

http://eriksmind.files.wordpress.com/2010/05/rosario_vampire-1.jpg

There's a picture to enjoy.

It's actually a pretty funny anime imo, did enjoy it though I hate how they all love the main character for no particular reason.

(Oh hold up, did you mean anime, or like hentai? Cause if its hentai there's plenty of worse things)

But the whole point is that Nyuu is innocent. She probably went a little cookoo in the brain juice after being shot, and because of that she has Schizophrenia.
Nyuu and Lucy are two different characters that share the same body. And the killing of the puppy is what drove her to kill the other kids. She didn't know that she all that capable of doing that[footnote]She knew that she had the powers, but wasn't aware that she could morally do it.[/footnote]. And having one of your best friend killed after an already extremely troubled childhood, well that's just a recipe for disaster and dementia.

Kodomo No Jikan

Picture it...
A NINE year old girl who appears to have the sex drive of a twenty something young man who wants to seduce and marry her third grade teacher. EWW...

No gore. NOT a mind screw, nor is it graphically violent . It's just plain creepy.

I looked it up and there is indeed a character designer that did work on Queens Blade and Ikki Tousen (the follow-up stories of the original) but it doesn't say anything about Sekirei :/

Still, Sekirei is probably has more fanservice than most anime, but on the first episode of Queens Blade I believe (actually I've just confirmed it...to my horror) that an anatgonist of that episode squeeze white acid from her breasts. Yes, you heard that right.
Hmmm well cuz according to funimation the animator of Sekirei(whos also the creator of it) also animated the girls from queens blade and ikkitousen.

I mean both animes are about girls with bouncy boobs so it might be true.

I really enjoyed Sekirei cuz it was more than just boobs, it had a decent plot and had touching moments (especially the 2nd season).
Well Sekirei the animation is actually based on the Manga, and I've also looked her up and she hasn't done any work on those. It's not that I disbelieve youa (as it mentioned it on that english dubbed trailer) but I can't see any connections.

Let's just call a spade a spade :D
