So that when a situation comes up and nudity isn't quite suitable, you can still get a boner.
I feel this sums it up the best.
Hats off to you, sir. Or tops off, if you'd prefer.

The women I talk to, for some crazy reason, think that men actually get tired of seeing us naked. I think that if my boyfriend (who tells me how hot I look while naked on a regular basis, before you go suggesting I'm horrific to look at) ever got tired of seeing me naked, I would make him get his eyes checked because his vision has obviously gone very blurry.

Trust me, you got a hot girl in front of you wearing the right stuff, you'll know the point of it.

Basically it's to add a little romance, excitement and intrigue to a sexual encounter. Instead of just boom, here she is, naked. With the slightest of coverings things become sort of a mystery. Hmm, what's under there? I think I'll take a peek.

Quoted for truth. It's also helpful in a long term relationship; i.e. marriage. A way to break up the monotony. Also, it's just plain sexy! Like trying to describe the exact qualities of a particual sunset or view from a mountain terrace, there's just something about seeing a beautiful woman in sexy, chic lingerie.

Never really got lingerie. I think that's a media exposure thing though. Same reason I don't find myself attracted to any of the supposedly most attractive women in the world. Seen it so often that not only do I not even look twice anymore, but I have trouble telling them apart. Give me a girl with pear-shaped figure in a hoody and jeans over an hourglass figure in lingerie any day.

Because some people have convinced themselves that it's more attractive than either nudity, or full business casual. It's not.
Good for you. I'm glad I met you or I might go on my whole life without knowing that lignerie isnt actually sexy. Phew, dodged a bullet there. ¬¬

To make lots of money by selling less material... and looking good on the body it was made for of course. And, if you see how complicated some of those things are, to ensure that your foreplay takes a bit longer. ;)

Serves the same purpose as makeup. It's designed to appeal to their desired partner with pleasing visual aesthetics. I think it's less about showing off genitalia than is it about simply wanting to be pretty. Straight men generally prefer to appear masculine, so evidently we do not require such garments, though as a genuine brotip, I'll tell you that I've gotten more flattery in boxer-briefs than in briefs.

I can see why some people like it. I personally think its meh. I get turned on just looking at her regardless of what shes wearing(or not wearing)

Foreplay and variety. A lot of sex's pleasure comes from the buildup, and it can be awfully boring just doing it naked and the same way every time.

Clearly from looking at this thread, the point of Lingerie is to be bought by the people who find it enticing.

Personally I'm all for it, sexy outfits is sexy outfits.

Uh, well for me... I have bigger than average breasts, it feels extremely awkward if I don't have any support to hold them in place so to speak.

Of course I don't wear a bra to bed or anything, that's uncomfortable.

I don't know. D:
