The thing that is wrong with kids today is the same thing that was wrong with kids from every generation and that is that when people get older they forget what being a kid was like since our minds tend to forget things like that with time.
Ok, after the line "kids still living in their parents house when they're 16", that's when I fully decided you're not serious. Most older people I know didn't leave the house at 16. You can't be serious.

i was bullied when i was a kid and let me tell you, it's not the kids, it's the parents.
my dad beat me to, he scared the shit outta me so much i just shut up and kept quiet. i kept quiet so much so that i didn't have many friends. and bullies....BULLIES...they're raised like spoiled brats you think they can take anything they want and push other kids around, and THIS is what toughened me up, not my dad. non of the other kids had dad's like mine, they weren't beat, they were bribed with money for good grades and shit.
i realized that since no one was going to stick up for me, i had to stick up for myself, and i did just that. I've punched 3 of my bullies in my school years, all of em left me alone after that. but this is just my personal story, it doesn't solve the bigger problem; society.

EDIT: There have been studies that prove reward works better than punishment for learning, and punishment only works at all if it happens the second the offence happens, or children and less intelligent animals won't associate the punishment with the offence.

It's been proven that positive reinforcement works a lot better than negative reinforcement.
Saying that a kid should just bend over and take the abuse that can come from children is fucking retarded, teens commit suicide all the time from abuse like that, and saying that it's no big deal is stupid.
Saying that depression is a disease invented to make kids who are abused feel better is a pretty horrible thing to say.

Have you consider of looking outside the box? Sure upraising had change but consider that society and the environment we had grow up on had also change.
Also FYI over here in the uk, the recommended age to leave the nest is usually around 18 or 21 not 16! I was still in high school at 16. However consider there is a thing called the recession, you know less employment threfore many people can't get a job even when they are skillful/ qualify for that job is not suprising that many people are still living with their parent or do you want to live on the street?
