In all honesty its my horrible lack of an attention span. In this fast paced world, sprawling maps and lengthy dungeons don't appeal to me when I could blast through a song on Guitar Hero in a few minutes and get the same feeling of accomplishment. I'd love to finish Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess but my brain says "Oh look at that shiny plastic guitar over in the corner. You know "Sad But True" only takes four minutes to complete right? God damn stupid society and its effect on my small distractible brain.

Most of the time I do finish games. I pay good money for it, so I may as well finish it so I can add it to my list. Besides, the game may surprise you near the end. It could have an event which answers everything or maybe a shocking reveal so it's usually worth a try at least.

If there is too much time between boss fights/story digests then I'm likely to be distracted by something more immediately interesting and then forget what I'm meant to be doing. Either that or the sun comes out!

Turok was a good example and I mean the one for the current generation, the N64 series was alright.
The enemy A.I. was too clever, too accurate, some of the dinosaurs were a pain in the ass like the road-runner crocodile things that could climb up trees, the insects were a can of farts too, there was no auto-aim and please don't diss me for this cause not everyone is a trained marksman like some of you who play Call of Duty 4, and some of the boss fights were hard to understand at first.
I usally play a game until I get up too at least 700 gamer points but I lost interest in this game so fast that I only got 170/1000. Sad, I know. :(

That and RPG games like xenosaga. Not that its a bad game, but I have to enjoy the magic system or I'll drop that thing like a hot brick.
On the note of Xenosaga, in the first game it has a very very very nasty design flaw once you get very close to the end of the game. For those of you who've played it you probably remember the fight in the, i guess you could call it a dream world, where the boss reacts to based upon the actions of two specfic characters you cannot change out of your battle party.

Upon much research of that fight I found out the only concievable way to kill it was to have pimped out your optional mech suits. Guess who played through the game without ever using them in a fight. So I was stuck, because the designers of the game decided that I needed a little more mech suit action in my life. Only option was to start over from sqaure one...about 13 or so hours in the wrong direction. I've never picked the game up again and subsequently never bought the sequals.

There's my rant for the day.

I always have something else to do. Like - hey, I haven't posted a video on Youtube for a while, time to make one. I still haven't finished Saints Row 2, I'm on the last mission.

Too many reasons, most of em already covered in this thread.

But the main reason for me is definitely 'loss of interest' (or less poetically: not giving a damn anymore). In my opinion, if it's not a hardware problem it always ends with not giving a damn anymore.

Repetitive? It means you've played long enough to notice a pattern..which killed your initial enthusiasm and 'made you not give a damn.' Too hard? You tried countless of times but now you don't give a damn anymore (can't try and fail forever, where's teh fun in that). Got new games? Means your enthusiasm for new stuff makes you not give a damn (at least for a while) about the old stuff. And so on.

It's usually because I don't have the time to spend on a game, and my brother will start playing it and then be further than I am, and be playing it constantly so I see most of what happens and lose interest. Almost every time.

Reasons why you would give up a game :
1. No interest
2. Bad game
3. Stupid game that has a part where you cant get past it unless you spend hours looking for something.
4. No time to play game.
5. Game that drags out for sooooooooooo long and feels as if the story isnt progressing.
6. Game costs too much (Monthly Fees)
7. Bad Players (For multiplayer games)
8. Game that changes from incredibly hard to incredibly easy. (It is VERY annoying one second you pewpew 1000s of men then 10 seconds later you die over and over again.)
9. Played game to death
10 and finally. Partner/Significant other forces you off it (Applies to MMOs only :p )

I've finished just about every game that I've ever played as it's my general policy to finish what I start.
I'm the exact opposite. Only the most compelling games are finished by me (Oblivion), or games that are on the short side (Halo 3).

I usually stop because I am limited with time and it's just not worth the effort to finish the game.

Most of my reasons have already been listed.

- Lack of Interest in the game.
- Another game came out at the same time and the other game was better, consequently the first game gets pushed to the bottom of the pile of "To Complete" games.
- No time to play the game, and when I finally do have time I've lost interest.
- Tedium, if a part of the game is very tedious and annoying, this can range from grinding to just annoying gameplay elements like searching for a small item in a massive map, then I might just give up.
- The game is terrible... Enough said.

I suppose one could say I have a bit of a ADHD when it comes to gaming.
