What is your favorite cocktail

Last night I mixed up a few of probably my favorite cocktail for some friends, Mint Juleps. I've you've never had a Mint Julep, you basically take a handful of mint, put them in a special metal cup (Or a regular glass if you're sane >.>) and you take a muddle and gently crush them in the bottom of the glass and rub them all over the sides of the cup, but keep them intact. Then you fill the cup up with crush ice, coming way up over the top. Then you trickle in about 3 oz. of bourbon over the ice, then add some sugar-water on top. Then you take another handful of mint and smash it in hands to bruise it, and stuff the mint in the top of the ice so you have to put your nose right into the mint leaves when you take a sip.

So what's everyone else's favorite cocktail for a warm summer day?

Plain, simple, non-alcoholic fruit cocktail. What? That juice is nice and I'm too young to get drunk.

The Pina Colada!

In a smallish glass:
1 shot of rum
Fill half of the glass with pineapple juice
Fill the other half with coconut juice
Add ice cubes

Prepare for the next best thing since sex.

You reminded me of something. When I was below the legal age, I still tried a beer or two and they always left this horrible aftertaste in my mouth. Can't really explain it but it's one that makes you scrunch your face. But as soon as I turned 18, it's like my taste buds went "Screw that" and after having the exact same beer as I did (Fosters) when I had the horrible taste, it tasted fine. If you notice that, let me know if the same thing happened (if beer's your thing when you get to it).

Long island iced tea. Lets see if I can remember the recipe.

Vodka, Rum, tequila, gin and, Curaco, maybe (all white spirits). I use ouzo as the 5th spirit when I make it but it's not quite as good. Anyway, shaken with lemon juice. Served over ice, topped up with coke. Beautiful.

Long Islands are really good, I make mine with Vodka, Rum, Gin, Tequila and Triple Sec, with sour mix and a splash of coke. Gotta watch those tho, they're innocuous little buggers but they'll knock you flat on your ass if you're not careful.

Pina Colada is good, but I've kinda gotten away from desiring so much sweetness in my drinks. I don't do cocktails too often to begin with, usually opting for like a single malt scotch or bourbon neat, but when I do, I like one that's pretty heavily built up on a liquor foundation, like an old fashioned or a mint julep.

Hey fair nuff, not going to have the corruption of the youth on my already terribly blood stained hands (/sarcasm)

I will one day figure out if there's a difference between orange curaco, Cointreau and Triple Sec other than the name. It'll be fun science.

I'm a big fan of chocolatey and creamy cocktails. ^_^; My favourite is the Irish Disco Biscuit as done by the cocktail chain B@1... Baileys and crème de menthe blended with Oreo cookies and vanilla ice cream. And topped with another Oreo. :D

I'd just drink that all night if... it wasn't the equivalent of a dessert each time I had one. *fatty*

My favourites are the Strawberry Daiquiri and the Flirtini.
Possibly the two most girly drinks you can find but they're so, so good.

I know what you mean. It can be overpowering if you're not up for sweet things, but in small glasses it can work quite well. Specially when the ice melts and gently dilutes it.

Never heard of a mint julep before. Recipe please?

Good old cosmopolitan. Don't know the actual recipe, but it's got enough flavour to keep me happy. The only problem is you don't realise how much alcohol is in one because of the overriding flavour of the juice, true of any cocktail. If you want one for the taste, stick to just one. If you want to get drunk quick, just keep em coming. (Learned that the hard way)

My dad made me taste some of his beer a while back (IDK, he is a crazy man sometimes :p) and yes, that is what it felt like, I wanted to spit it on someone! I will tell you if that changes with time.

They're the same thing. Triple Sec is a Type of Curacao, which was first made by Cointreau. Cointreau is a top-shelf Triple Sec that I would NEVER use in a Long Island.

Don't get me wrong, Pina Coladas are good, but they're something I need to be in the mood for.

Mint Julep, well I put in my post how I make one, but there are a lot of different recipes (American Southerners will fight wars over Mint Juleps if you let them >.>)

Here is the video that taught me how to do it (This guy's got a lot of great videos on mixing drinks btw)

Also, love the prose. "Sip it and say there is no solace for the soul, no tonic for the body like Old Bourbon whiskey."

What I do:

Take 5ish mint leaves, rub and gently crush them in and around the cup. Then fill it with crushed ice. Then I pour in about 3 oz. of bourbon through the ice, then follow it up with 1 oz of simple syrup. Stir it a little, then take another 5ish mint leaves, whack em in your hand and stuff em in the top of the cup so you get a nose-ful of mint when you take a sip.

I actually can't drink lager (The swill that most Americans drink, like Bud and MGD). Now, Ales are another story. A nice stout or porter is really good. There are some really good ales made by monks in Belgium, they cost like 5 bucks a bottle here, but MAN are they good >.>

Considering I can count the number of times I have tried an alcoholic beverage on my fingers, I wouldn't know :p

You were right the first time mate, Fosters IS rancid :p. It's the most offensive thing I've ever put in my mouth (apart from Cod Liver Oil perhaps). Some twat tried to drink it [Fosters] through my vuvuzela too, so now that stinks :(.

As for cocktails, I honestly don't know. Not a big drinker of them. I've had a couple in my time but the most recent one was a couple of years ago and I can't remember the name. Though a mini-ambition of mine is to try a White Russian, purely because of The Dude. And the fact it's got milk in it.
