The 2000s for me.

I find it hard to enjoy many anime after 2000. I hve about 10 anime I like or love. Vs 300+ anime I enjoy or adore from the 70s 80s and 90s. Mostly 80s.

Probably Chaos;Head and Umineko no Naku Koro ni.

The games they're adapted from are solid, and Umineko's predecessor even got an excellent anime adaption (as have Steins;Gate), but in anime form both of them are just an intangible mess which no sense can be made of.

Sailor Moon's English disaster.

Surprisingly enough, the original dub/cut is quite a good series.
The English dub/cut actually goes so far as to change the bloody plot!! =(

1) the ending to phantom, requiem for the phantom (seriously the main character just gets shot by an old guy)

2) hitman reborn getting cancelled before they did the inheritance arc

The ending to Rozen Maiden springs to mind immediately. I thought it was alright, but not particularly good and really disappointing because it left quite a few questions unanswered.
Why did Barasuishou crumble away? What the hell happened after that with Rozen? What was with that freaky rabbit guy, and why did everyone suddenly know his name? Did Souseiseki and Hinaichigo ever come back?

There was also the infamous ending to Neon Genesis Evangelion...
I got completely depressed after finishing Träumend. Could have just been that it was over though. Anyway as far I understand
The person who created Barasuishou wansn't Rozen, it was Rozen's apprentice. He tried to create an eighth doll to win the Alice Game for him. No one knows what happened to Rozen or where he is.

Barasuishou crumbled away because she was beaten by Shinku, and because she wasn't a real Rozen Maiden doll, so when she was defeated, she was completely destroyed.

As for Laplace's Demon, (that rabbit thing) the dolls knew his name from before, and when they figured out that he was the Apprentice's apprentice (/secretary or something) he didn't need to pretend anymore. They knew him from before.

As far as Souseiseki and Hinaichigo go, I have no idea. I'd like to think the did come back, but Hinaichigo was sort of doomed from the moment she was beaten by Shinku (in like the first episode of the first season) because she had to live of the energy Shinku passed to her from Jun. As for Souseiseki; I don't know, she was beaten fair and square by Suigintou (if I remember correctly) and had her Roza Mystica taken, so I guess she actually lost the Alice Game. The other dolls were "killed" by a fake doll, so maybe that didn't count. So if from what I understand about the Alice Game is correct; they were beaten by actual Rozen Maiden dolls, so No they didn't come back. :( Kind of a downer.

Amazing series though, It was what got me into anime.

EDIT: according to the wikipage, Souseiseki and Hinaichigo's Roza Mystacae's are in the possesion of the Rabbit, and they're both in a "deep sleep" and their fates are still unkown.

OMG, this. The ending of the story was just so bad.

Death Note is a big example of an anime that's just chock full of wasted potential.

For me it was seeing the last 5 episodes of High-School of the Dead. I weep at the lost potential turned to blatant fanservice.
Ummm HOTD was blatant fanservice from the beginning. If it took you 5 episodes to realise that, I think you maybe a bit slow.

the greatest dissapointment i ever had in an anime was kamina. for those of you who know what happened im sure you will agree
Kamina had to die though. Now, it was disappointing but he had to die if the other characters were to get any better and the plot was to go forward. The major disappointment I had with Gurren Lagann were the first few episodes post timeskip where they just fannied about with politics that no-one gave a shit about and threw mechas with no personality at Gurren Lagann to fight. Generally, the second half of the series is weaker until the end when the mechas get bigger than galaxies. And Nia, just go die in a hole, you inane woobie.

i would probably have to say when a show has to have fanservice just for the sake of it. It really doesn't add anything to the story and it just makes most Anime's look sleazy, And it really is a kicker when it devours shows that have the potential to be great.

That Kamina died in Episode 8.

I get why, but goddamn, seriously? Episode 8? That's not even a third of the show. Not to mention that I wish there were more episodes in the first place.

For the last couple of years I feel like my disinterest/ contempt for anime has grown tremendously.

Couple of reasons:

-"Just roll with it": if something rather important does not make sense (storywise or at all) I tolerate it for up to two times. If I spot it a third time, the anime in question can go f*ck itself.

-"Too many episodes/ Going on for no reason": if I start getting the feeling the show just drags on for the sake of dragging on, it can go f*ck itself.

-Cannon fodder enemies and endless training montages (or constant upgrading of skills, often out of nowhere). Yeah, I'm talking about you Bleach, you utter garbage.

-To all artists ever (anime, movies, books, games): NEVER assume that I care about your characters from the very start. I don't. It's your job to make me care through interesting character development. If there is too little of that, i.e. the character stays flat, eventually I will tell the anime to go f*ck itself.

-I absolutely f*cking hate it when an otherwise serious anime is punctured by countless moments of silly humour (especially the change of drawing style to sillyness is annoying). If it happens too often, the anime can go f*ck itself.

Basically, nowadays I tell 90+ % of all anime to go f*ck itself after 3-7 episodes. If I can't get immersed in the setting/ atmosphere and at least slightly invested in the characters in those first few episodes it is very unlikely to happen later on.

All in all, anime for me has almost become synonymous with "waste of time".

Wow, now that I got this off my chest I feel a lot better.
