So that is the question.

For me it was seeing the last 5 episodes of High-School of the Dead. I weep at the lost potential turned to blatant fanservice. I could not understand why people were hard on it the first 6 episodes were splendid. Good action somewhat thought provoking (not deep thought but still). Then that dang bullet broke the laws of physics, a bullet travailing several hundred feet/second passing preforming stunts with breast physics. I lost all interest in the show after that. A few other scenes drove me farther away, but that one stab my science side in the heart.

I liked the drama, the decisions about who to follow, whether or not to save the child at the risk of the group. but the dang fanservice. I like a little fanservice if sprinkled in now and then. If it has a good plot to the episode I will enjoy it. In other words, I like the OVA of Full Metal Panic: TSR. It had a good (even if a bit cheesy) story to it, it was not over done on the unnecessary partial nudity (I like story more, but the unnecessary partial nudity was only 1.5 min at the start of the episode and was in place of the intro sequence), and it was an OVA, part of the series but separate at the same time. I did not have to watch to gain insight on the main story.

So that is it my greatest disappointment was High-School of the Dead. Great potential gone like the sand of time.

Filler .. and the fact that many anime's end really poorly due to stopping much much short of the manga.

Kinda why I stopped watching anime unless it's a 14-26 episode long self contained story.

It's like the things were built to disappoint or simply last so long you outgrow them. I have seriously aged my way out of a couple series.

You are talking about a show that has the dead coming to live and you are hung up on Physics, reality has already been suspended.

That would be my number 3 choice. Only because I found it somewhat surprising. But still disappointing.

I was on a kyoani buzz after watching Haruhi and Lucky Star and I found this to be one of the most boring shows I've watched, like Chowder, I think hype ruined it for me.

Looks like I have been ninja'd by the OP. Yeah, I stopped watching that show around episode 6 or 7, I forget exactly where. And for basically the exact same reasons as you.

Way, way, WAAAAAAY to much fanservice for me. And this is coming from a guy who likes Drawn Together.

1. Kuroshitsuji getting a second season. I literally cried.
2. Endless Eight was pretty disappointing in the sense that they pretty much missed out on animating a few short stories that I really like and ensured that no third season would ever be made, but I still stand by the artistic decision to make Haruhi Season 2 into a LIFE EXPERIENCE, not merely a good anime.
3. Princess Lover deserved much much better treatment than what it got. But, of course, anything with lots of fanservice is guaranteed to be rushed, wrung out for max marketing potential, and discarded.

On the other hand, Yosuga no Sora was a pleasant surprise.

What the hell kind of criticism is that? HOTD was MADE for the silly fanservice, stupidly over-the-top action and jokes. It's meant to be vaguely parodical in nature .-.

The only thing that comes to mind at the moment is Blood-C. It just so damn slow, and each episode is the same goddamn thing. I was really looking forward to this one. It's getting a little better, though.

I'm sure there are other disappointments other than that, but I can't think of any.

Also, I liked Death Note's ending

It's the other way around for me. I thought Lucky Star was boring but I loved K-ON!

ok im kinda weird i think that there are too many animes that end depressingly(same with manga)i mean i just watched elfin lied and fate stay night both could have ended better and hell fate stay night could of had a HAPPY ending but it didnt. dont get me wrong i love anime that have you know a meaningful reason why half the cast dies as well as a main character but i mean wtf for every one that gives a good ending (whether through meaningful sacrifice or a happy ending) there one were they basically say fuck all to every thing and just end it with no real closure. I want fucking closure DAMIT!

The last few episodes of Evangelion. I know there are movies that fixed it, but I've lost all interest in the series.

And the last episode of Berserk just ending leaving room for a second season that never came. The movies they are making hopefully will make up for the long wait.

I don't really have great disappointments in anime. I guess I'm hard to turn away. I'd probably say Akira disappointed me. Not because of hype, but because it just went weird with little explanation.

I actually liked Death Note's ending.
I don't knwo if HOTD will disappoint me since I've only seen the first few episodes and found them pretty great, like you did.

Hit the nail on the head.

When they bastardize the story.
3 examples: Rozen Maiden; Hellsing (Not Ultimate); Claymore.

Another one; for me would have to be Cliche characters. I dropped Kurokami on the 3rd episode because of the "I'm just a high school kid, I don't want a super attractive girl to live with me! What would the neighbours think!"

Also (this one is played hand in hand with the above) if someone (a Female) sees a guy looking at a girl in anything less than her highschool uniform he gets abused and called a pervert. I actually cringe EVERY time.

Lastly - Narm (Look it up on TVTropes)

- Well I'm getting off topic but yeah those are what really disappoint me.

I hear you, although this wasn't really an issue with the anime. It happened in the manga too.

OP: Just the difference in time between reality and events in the show. Wait, let me clarify that.

So, watching Naruto Shippuden, when Sakura is fighting Sasori (I think that's how you spell his name; it's the puppet-guy from the Akatski.) At the beginning of an episode, she injects herself with an antidote to some poison, which will last for three minutes. She then proceeds to do nothing for the rest of the episode, until 19 minutes later (Real time) she mentions that about a minute has passed.

Not cool.

Either:

--Constant upgrades. Even some of my favourite anime fall prone to that. I don't mean simply getting stronger through time. Just these ridiculous "tier jumps" where the hero goes out and HAS to learn technique X to beat guy Y and become super mega whatever Z.

--Absurdity/silliness. I get that a lot of people love cute and silly, but it's everywhere. Gurren Lagann is ridiculous and it works. But it's like even the most serious dramas get ridiculous.silly/cutesy, often breaking the blow and tension for me.

Black Rock Shooter for me. After seeing fanart of it in random places all over the internet I expected some sort of awesome dark action movie.

What do I get? I get a yuri movie with washed-out colors and some beautiful dark action sprinkled in that seemed out of place but kept me invested and an ending that made me want a sequel until I found out the movie goes A X B Y C Z order.
