As much as I love Spice & Wolf Lawrence is a bit of an idiot at times.

Holo: Make love to me.
Lawrence: *Shocked look* *leaves room*
Hank: *screaming* LAWRENCE YOU FUCKING MORON!!!!

There's more to it than that, obviously, but you get the idea.

Though he finally gets it together and kisses her in the end of the second season. Took him fucking long enough.

I've been on a real losing streak when it comes to watching anime lately. I am getting SO SICK of the whole hey-lets-try-to-find-as-many-ways-to-sneak-in-as-many-panty-shots-as-we-possibly-can mentality. Over sexualization is such a turn off to me.
Dude, watch Spice & Wolf. It's rather unique in that it focuses on economics and trading rather than the sword and sorcery of traditional fantasy. Yes, it does have some nudity in it, but nowhere near the amout High School of the Dead has.

Give it five episodes. If you don't like it after that, you probably won't. And part of me will die.

Dude I know how you feel

That was mine thought on hotd for the first part and then it just got lost in fanservice.

Still enjoyed it for teh lulz though.

I saw the OVA though (well half of it anyway), I had to stop because I just can not stand pointless nudity. If there is a reason for it fine I will call it art, but when they do that to my physics I rolled my eyes and gave up for good on the series.

I admit, it was a little funny and good when they stopped the fanservice and got back to the story but I still feel betrayed. Mostly because of this thread I started http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.232178-Poll-Highschool-of-the-Dead-H-O-T-D .

It was months ago but I still feel badly for going all 'fanboy' show I had not finished yet and gave me warning signs that it would be full of fanservice at some point. I feel betrayed and even after almost a year after watching the last episode, I still feel more then a bit of resentment over the studios failing. Well I will end this rant of mine, Thank you for taking the time to read it.
lol the ova was pure fan service, I enjoyed it for teh lulz and the whole series doesnt really have much nudity(like I think there were only 3 times they actually showed bare breasts) and the ova didnt have that tbh only high school girls in skin tight bikinis.

I let it all slide cuz the maker of hotd drew hentais from wut I heard. Also the dub for it was really good, better than I expected.

I got some good animes that balance fan service and plot nicely if you're interested.
Explain that to the Army Chaplin that was looking of the shoulder of his Chaplain Assistant (ME) during an "unfortunate" scene of Full Metal Panic:TSR. Saying "It was just breasts taken out of context" is not quite good enough. I just do not like surprise nudity.

I am interested in good anime with some fanservice. Just no Nudity. I am still on thin ice from last weeks incident with FMP.

When I attempted to watch Naruto. The way people kept going on about it; I thought it must be something amazing, but I stopped watching it after episode 9 because it was just bad. It's probably only bad for me because I attempted to watch it as an adult so there was no childhood nostalgia to draw on.

The fact that people consider Elfin Lied to be a good series.

I haven't read the Manga, so I can't say if it gets better, but the fact that little kids beat a puppy to death because someone was different. This was taken place when there was no implied government brainwashing, these were normal, everyday bullys, not insane psychopaths, bullys, beating a puppy, to death, because someone, was different. I am sorry to add so many commas but my god, I can't think of one scene so forced. I can't sympathy because of how unrealistic that scene was. Little kids, normal little non-brainwash non-insane completely normal kids. Would never ever beat to death a puppy.
Have you heard of a somewhat popular term, "Kids can be cruel"?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_James_Bulger

There are some complete monsters out there below the age of 10, that there have been recorded killings from, intentional killings where they find younger kids or animals and brutally beat them, or kill them. It's noted in some sociopaths that they did this when they were younger
and is a proven trait in some mental issues along the lines of narcissism and sociopaths.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/02/21/jordan-brown-killed-fathe_n_168862.html

There are more examples, but remember that some kids can and will be horrifically cruel.
It might be true that it exists, but can you really say with a honest face that that scene wasn't forced, that all 3 (I think there were three its been a long time.) of those kids were mentally insane and wouldn't of stopped for a second to think, maybe killing this puppy is a bad thing.
My friend, who is a fairly normal human with a job in the Marine Corps, once beat a cat to death when he was 12 for no better reason than to watch it die. Some people are sick.
All three of the kids though, not a hint of "This might be wrong" I am not saying it can't happen. What I am saying is it doesn't happen enough to just get away with it without exploring the characters involved. Instead we get "these kids are just evil K"
You have to remember (though I'm not a huge Elfen Lied fan) that people in the U.S. once hung and disembowled another human being for no better reason than because they had more melanin in their skin. The girl was really different, and that was all the justification these kids needed.
This wasn't back then though, I vaguely remember the teacher steping in and saying "bullying that girl is wrong" so it is implied that the world they are living in is modern enough to recognize that bone deformation does not infact = the devil. If I remember right it wasn't public knowledge that those horns you know made you a murdering machine. So as far as these kids knew, it was not socially acceptable to pick on this girl.

I have actually seen the first season of Spice & Wolf. Honestly I couldn't tell whether I liked it or not. ^-^;; I was talking to a friend once about it and told her it was about economics and she just looked at me was like, "....what?"

Two animes that I was thinking about when I made my first post was Needless and 11 Eyes the latter having a very...out there special episode.

Dragon Ball Z's ending. So Goku's neglecting his friends and family AGAIN to go train with a guy he just met...yeah that's a great ending.

when anime change get endings different from what they have in their manga....
fillers...
or they "forget" to put an important detail that got a large influence on the story and then make up something stupid that dont have any connecting or sense to try and make up for it...

I think for me, my disappointment is more of a generalized ennui. It seems like every time I seriously focus my attention on anime, for every director or studio doing something amazing and imaginative, there are five who are churning out the same hoary cliches that have been around since the 70s. Sentai, mecha, ninja girls, bounty hunters, D&D rip-offs... Occasionally someone does something artful or intriguing within those broad motifs, but there's an awful lot of recycling. Determined speeches about the desire to do their best. Big swords that make crescent-shaped swooshes of light through the air. Yatta yatta.

Now, obviously, there's a lot of cliches and trope-reliance and willing mediocrity in Western film, animation, and television as well, I just feel there's less excuse for it in anime, where the laws of reality are whatever the writers say they are and the artists are able to conceive. Western animation is often hogtied by the continued belief that animation is largely a childrens' medium, or at least a family-friendly medium. South Park and some of the "Adult Swim" crowd are making some progress, but to be frank, most of them are made on the extremely cheap (and often look it) and can afford to take some risks. Anime also has to appeal to its audience, but in a nation where animation can range from hard-core pornography to cooking shows, it would seem like there ought to be more leeway.

Bleach, dear Grenth did I have hope. It was actually better then I expected, the soul society arc was rather enjoyable. Then came the Espade, they are the worst trope of anime ever. The group of hyped up villian's that never get anything done. Honestly the Espade
all die, all dead. Without killing a single person.
utter Charr feces.

Naruto

I actually liked it at the start. It had such character and an interesting story that could have gone in any direction. In the first seasons, every character mattered and they were all threatening and interesting in their own ways.

Now look at it today, it has all the worst qualities of DBZ...No, I take that back. This show/manga is now much worse then DBZ ever was. It's not because everyone is powerful, it's because that's all there is to it. Not one of the characters has any character anymore, and no one they have introduced is interesting even in the slightest. I just watched/read the latest ones and I can safely say it was just pure, utter garbage. It tries to be funny: it isn't. It tries to be thought provoking: it isn't. You can't have a story drag on this long if not a single one of the characters are interesting. One Piece got it right, I don't understand how or why Naruto can't do this to.

Irrational hatred of dubs. What do people like the horrible Engrish singing in japanese BECK?

Also Death Note: Light's death compared to how it went down in the manga. Ryuk is DEATH GOD. He never cared about Light, he was just bored. All that giving him a nice death nonsense is trash if you ever read the manga.

http://www.mangareader.net/113-4123-1/death-note/chapter-107.html

Really read that its beyond awesome.
