Sonic the Hedgehog-Got me playing games to start with.

Samurai Showdown-My first and to this day one of my favorite fighters.

Goldeneye-Got me playing shooters.

Pokemon Red-Addicted me to RPG's.

Legend of Zelda:Majora's Mask-Ocarina was a great game, but Majora taught me atmosphere makes a world of difference.

Dreamcast- Just...wow. Everything about the Dreamcast was just great. Now being that I was on the Sega side of things during the 4th console generation, I'm probably seeing the Dreamcast through bit of a nostalgia filter. Nonetheless, no one can deny the sheer number of awesome games that the Dreamcast had in it's tragically short life span.

Metroid Prime-A bench mark of all around awesome.

Megaman X holds a special place i nmy heart for being my first ever video game. I would say it is very important. I still have it and my old SNES.

Also I have an unopened Chrono Trigger that is also VERY important to me.

Counter strike. It has changed me quite a bit and was the game that got me hooked on online multiplayer

Pokemon Red/Blue and the Game Boy Color in general. I got it when I was six and spent on Christman Eve (I was allowed to pen one gift early). I just turned it on and off and when I opened up Pokemon Red and Blue (Don't know why I got both) that changed everything and got me really into games.

I'm split between what my most important game is. Its either Pokemon Silver or Paper Mario. Both are some of my favorite RPGs and two of my top games list. I remember playing both those games a lot as a kid, they shaped me into the gamer I am today and have fond memories playing them. I don't know.

Also, this was a great forum topic and an interesting one too.

Final Fantasy VII. The first game that really opened my eyes to the potential of video games as an artistic storytelling medium.

Terranigma. No competition for that game out there.

I remember beating it as a kid, staring at the screen hating absolutely everything about the ending. Until I grew up and understood it.

Not a single game has evoked emotions out of me like that game could.

Diablo II was one of the first non-casual game I played because I had a Mac. I grew up with Macs because my parents worked in graphics, but this was the came that convinced me to by myself a PC to game with. 10 years later, I don't play RPGs so much anymore, but I remember how much fun I had putting off school work to play.

I would say Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. This game got me into action/adventure games with more emphasis on exploration.
I came onto this thread to post exactly that...

A Link to the Past was the first game that showed me the medium could be about so much more than 'winning' and getting points.

It showed me that games can be a wonderful and immersive way to explore whole new worlds and escape from the shitty reality of life for a while.

Take that forward a few years and you have Fallout 3, which reinforced this notion in my head. Those two games have an awful lot in common.

The earliest games I remember playing were "Chopper" and "D-Day" on the Apple II. But the game that really made me a video-game junkie was Chrono Trigger, still my all time favorite, which is odd seeing as how I play very few JRPGs anymore.

Crash Bandicoot, first game ever.
Tekken 3 helped out a bit, and Pokemon Blue brought it home.

There was no specific game that 'inspired' me to play games. It was just something I did/do because I enjoy shutting my brain off or sitting through a good story.

But I don't feel any game is particularly important. Thats just silly, and how cults are formed.

Shadow Hearts: Covenant.

It was the best in the series and showed that RPG's can be so very much more then what i have seen. A storyline that was both comical yet darkly serious. Villains that were more then just "evil". Heroes whose personalities were wildly varied yet each of them had relationships in the game that were powerful and believable. No hero in the game was a stranger to the others. They were all close friends and it was amazing how well that got across.

The game had a beautifully engaging storyline, unique form of battle that kept you in the game with the judgment ring system. Hours of extra secret dungeons, areas, side quests, and upgrades. The game was brilliant in every sense of the word.

And after Shadow Hearts 3 sucked so hard my dreams of ever seeing another game like it died.
